The 'Ropolitans : Is Jeff Wilpon the real GM?

If I were either guy I wouldn't want to take credit for the current team architecture. They need a solid vision based on baseball principles, and all they seem to be doing is trying random desparate things to sell seats in the short term. If Wilpon has any intention of being the owner for the long haul, he has to realize that his vision for the team (or lack thereof) comes out in the big picture. Better to suffer for a few seasons with dignity (and farm system intact) than to look foolish trying to turn everything around with one big signing. There's more than one way to sell tickets; after all, the Cubs sold 3 million this season too.

The 'Ropolitans : Omar’s follies

Omar works intuitively, without much personal organization. This style may have served him well in his years with the Expos organization, where things were relatively quiet, but it has fallen apart in New York. He has outlasted his usefulness here, and it is now time to move on to a more business-oriented, dare I say Cashman-style, GM. It is time for John Ricco. Omar should have a nice warchest of money saved up. He will do exceptionally well in a small underdeveloped market, just as long as he doesn't set his sights on the big time again.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : K-Rod says what he needs to say

The Mets need to hire a coach that instructs these guys on how to talk to the press. Every year it seems, somebody in a Mets uniform feels the need to beat his chest whenever a reporter puts the challenge before him. These are quotes that fire up teams like the Phillies, Braves and Marlins, no matter how factual they seem at the time. Our guys need to learn not to grab the bait every winter.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : The rotation, if the season started today

This is a very respectable rotation, if only the fifth spot is up in the air. And none of these spots is Pedro!

Latest news is that the Mets are not interested in Pudge. It looks like he has started the rumor to generate interest. Appears to me that Omar's intelligence on this one is good.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : This is just stupid

They are definitely guilty of lame humor. No need to think it's funny. This is some troupe trying to launch a comedy career off of YOUTUBE, folks. It's not going to be SNL quality, if that's even a standard anymore. It's not even MADTV, or even The Whitest Kids U Know. It's probably someone with access to a broadcast school studio and a camera. It's bad form to take offense at it, especially if you would laugh if it were centered around a different team. What are we, a bunch of thin-skinned wimps who even care what other people think? I still say it's a commentary on call-in fans in general, just using the end of the Shea era as a springboard. Defend the team, yes, and care about the season. But we have to be able to take a few jabs, even if they are amateurish. We are holding ourselves out to be contenders, and that makes a big target that we have to deal with.

You gotta be able to take a joke, people. This is obviously meant as satire, even if it was clumsily done. Even the jock had good Shea memories. It was just a skit about stupid callers. If it was pro-Yank they wouldn't have had the self-centered Yank fan call in. Loosen up a little, you have all been under too much pressure lately.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Mets Rumor Rundown: K-Rod to wait until after winter meetings

Sounds like Rodriguez wants to make this deal work, but he doesn't want to be stuck out tere like Wagner with no setup team. If the Mets can make a decent showing at acquiring one or two reliable middlemen, they should be able to convince him. The ball's in Minaya's court now. If you think about it, this might make it easier for Omar to get said relievers, since they can be enticed by the promise of probably working with K-Rod.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Castillo begged to stay with Mets

If you've ever needed redemption you can relate to this guy, but come on. These are million-dollar-plus contracts. The only reason he gets a chance is to salvage the millions that was spent on him, not because he begged. And if he doesn't turn it around he's a bum. With the leisure time that money can buy he should be working with a trainer ten hours a day until opening day.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Manny is already on the Phillies $#!% list

I admit it would be refreshing to have a player on the team who actually gets better when he gets backed into a corner, but Manny would be a short-term mercenary at best. He's looking for some security in his golden years. We can't afford any more retirement plans.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Want your blood to boil?

I don't read Newsday regularly, but from the tone of the comments there, little Wally has been doing a little newspaper recycling, only it isn't all that environmentally friendly. This guy apparently has an axe to grind. So he didn't get the team he wanted to cover in New York. Boo hoo. He'd better stop whining and be thankful he works for one of the biggest sports sections in the country, or he'll wind up in Padukah next.

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Dear Lupica: Do your research

Sometimes Mr. Lupica writes with his heart instead of his head, and he makes a point. You know Manny won't be loyal to the Mets, his fourth team at age 36, so why take on the salary?
