Great article! Security is something that is often overlooked. We all know the three is one, one is none rule; well, if you are loosed lipped three will become none just as easily when someone takes it from you. My coworkers and friends think I am a granola and I don't dispell the notion. It keeps my family safe. The only one who realy knows is my wife. I don't even tell my parents all that we do and have. I love the loose lips sink ships visual.

Like everybody else, I agree that this is a great article. I do not prep for arrmagedon, my soul is prepared already, I prep for natrual disaster, power outage, ect.. I got into the prepping thing from living in the great divide in Colorado, hence the name, and we would often get snowed in for days at a time. From there I just saw more and more reason to be prepared for other possibilities. I now live in the desert but the thought process is the same. I love this article, this is the reason I frequent this site. Keep up the good work.

The blizzard bag looks like a winner. Although I was thinking; If you can't find a blizzard bag you could double up on the SOL and have instant layers.

I agree with the pain it is to wrap the e-blanket around your body. The only time I saw one being used, in an old hunter shack in Alaska, was as a top blanket. E-blankets are basically useless as a wrap.

Good video review. I would like to see more of these down the road. Keep it up. I have not had to use my e-blankets, but I was with someone who had, and they are not vey good; Noisy, rip easy, and are hard to fold back up. The SOL looked like it was a bit noisy, doesn't mean much but I am a light sleeper, but being able to get inside of it sold me, the toughness seemed good too. Did you get in with your boots on, it looked like you did.

It sounds like a good book from what I have read about it. The survival handbook, put out by the LDS, is very detailed and free. The only drawback to the LDS book is pages 1 through 20 are mormon propaganda, after that it is full of detailed information of what to buy, what to skip and how to store the stuff. I recomend it. If I remember right there is a link to it somewherer on this site. And, being a teacher I have to comment on the first post. I agree that the Holy Bible is the most important survival book ever made (given to humanity) and Paul says that there is not one thing that we have or can do that did not come from somewherer else. I have clothes because somebody else made them, I can read because some one taught me, etc... think about, not one thing. But, MrAlpine I can grow my own food. Did you make the seed?

This is a great post. Blending in is not something that is commonly brought up in survival books. When I think of the native hunters they never wore "cammo" but they did tie thongs along their arms and off of their legs. Breaking up your outline is one of the most important concepts in concealment. Great post; looking forward to number two.

I just want to add that I have nothing against Bear, I think he is a man I think I would get along with very well. I just question marketing ads.

I bought the BG knife a few weeks ago while going through Chinamart (Walmart). I was highly skeptical at first, being from Chinamart (nothing from Chinamart last longer than two weeks), and being branded with the Bear Grylls name, but being a Gerber I thought it would be interesting. I was quite surprised with the knife. I actually think it is a quality made knife, and worth the money.
