Great post, but I believe the underlying reason for silence regarding abuses of women, homosexuals, children, sub-Saharan Africans, etc. vis a vie Muslims is simply fear. Musician's and Hollywood can turn out song's and scripts that paint Christianity in the most vile manner imaginable, and the worst repercussions that such "artists" may endure is an idle death threat, that should and would be investigated and the individual prosecuted if captured. More likely, the response consists of "nasty letters" published in a local rag's editorial section, or if the story goes national, than maybe Bill O'Reilly gets into the act (and this is just what the "artists" are counting on, for without such free publicity, such passé juvenile crap would never sell). Go and publish the image of Mohammed in a cartoon strip and witness the murder of 100 people, including a Catholic priest...all in the name of Islam. Write a fictional book about Islam and live in hiding for the rest of your life. Create a film critical about Islam and lose your head...literally.

Saddam gave save transport, medical attention, and training to numerous terrorists and terrorist organizations, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and yes, even Al-Qaeda...but it never was an "operational relationship", just ask Hugh or Hillary Clinton. President Bush was wrong to refer to Islam as a religion of peace, but in that regard, which modern leader of a western democracy has not made the same bogus claim? The US has dealt with the M.E. in many different ways, including real politik via Reagan in Iraq and surrender in Lebanon, and complete dhimmi-tude during the Carter Administration. Bush tried something different, maybe it will work, maybe it won't. The payoff would be long-lasting if it did, which is something none of the other attempts could ever promise.
