I predicted that Ron Paul would fare a lot better the 2nd time around because his economic stances would resonate with more people amidst the tough economic times. I also predicted he would do well enough to carry at least one or two states. My predictions on political candidates usually are way off the mark, but considering how many more votes Paul has received in contests held so far, I stand by the prediction I made about his winning a state or two.

Well, Eastwood isn’t Wayne, but what did Wayne ever do? Always supported Republicans in elections, supported the troops, and made many pro-American films through his production company, Batjac (like Big Jim McLain, Blood Alley, and especially The Alamo and The Green Berets). I know you're making the argument for Eastwood, but that's no excuse for making flippant comments about the Duke like that. I haven't seen J. Edgar, but the only question I've had is this: Does Leonardo DiCaprio come across as believable in the role of Hoover? As an actor, that's been his biggest challenge for a long time. As for the ad, I had no problems with it (and I certainly didn't see anything political about it), and my hat's off to Eastwood; he did a good job of writing the commercial.

Maybe so. It certainly deserved winning an Oscar, but on the other hand, it was 1960, a year where audiences heard some of the most memorable music ever composed, including The Magnificent Seven. In addition, there was Alex North's score for Spartacus and the actual winner of the Oscar for that year, Ernest Gold's score for Exodus. That would've been a hard vote to cast.

The mention of Maureen Stapleton in Interiors brought to mind something I got from watching the film. Throughout the film, it's apparent Geraldine Page's character is like a black hole, she sucks everything in (including her family's love for her) and gives nothing in return. When she commits suicide at the end, I realized just how antithetical she and Stapleton's character are. One of the daughters nearly dies trying to save her mother, and it's Stapleton's character who saves her. While the mother gave nothing to her family by way of love, the stepmother wants to give everything.

John Wayne getting in touch with his inner feelings would have been weird; John Wayne fighting a giant squid wasn't. The dog was hilarious, even when he wasn't talking, and Ray Milland gave a good performance. On the whole, Reap The Wild Wind stands out because it was the only film to feature John Wayne in a performance directed by Cecil B. DeMille (and it's a shame that was the only film they made together). As for Paulette Goddard, who couldn't fall in love with her in The Great Dictator or Unconquered for that matter? Not only that, her singing that song when she's in Charleston in Reap The Wild Wind was memorable (especially the smile on her face when she'd say “Aboard the Nellie B”).
