mooseandsquirrel.ca — Mostly Canadian eh! : Compare and contrast: Baby killing is a beautiful thing VS Truth from a former abortion patient

I tell you, when I read that crap by the babykiller-in-training, it became crystal-clear that Liberalism is a mental disorder. You'd have to be mentally deranged to say there is "truly nothing more beautiful" than sucking a defenseless life into a sink to be disposed of as garbage. Only a weak-minded coward would consider abortion to be empowering: "...she reclaims her body and her future." Any women who get off on late term abortions...They make me sick.

I know -- humble -- what a joke. But that's our local paper... Do you read Ed Anger? Kathy always links to his humourous posts: Ed Anger says: 'Obama should throw off his chains!' I had a laugh at this last paragraph: Oh well. It was news to me that the A-rabs “built our tallest building.” I thought they were the ones who blew it up. But then I didn’t go to college.

I know what you mean -- it was nothing to see a dozen or more squirrels at any one time in our backyard in the old neighbourhood. But now, we only have a couple of squirrels here. You'd think there would be more considering the "nuts" that live here. ;)

Ha -- but does it taste like chicken? What a laugh though -- squirrel genocide -- it sounds like a term somebody from PETA would have thought up. I mean, I love wildlife too, but that's just silly.

It's always annoyed me that so many people refer to addiction as an illness -- as if it's unavoidable and just happened. I loved what he had to say about safe injection sites. I've been saying for ages that it doesn't just enable the addiction to continue -- it actually encourages it.

mooseandsquirrel.ca — Mostly Canadian eh! : Landscaping update: more trees

Wow, that's quite a slope! The property directly behind us slopes right down, so we had to put some edging along the bottom of the fence at the back in order to prevent our topsoil from sliding down into their yard. Next door to them, their neighbours brought in a bunch of large rocks to make kind of a barrier -- like erosion control, sort of. It gives some structure to their garden. It's starting to look nice with the plants filling in more. Removing tree stumps is hard work -- I don't envy you that! Oh, and our backyard is flat, but it slopes down toward the house. This is standard grading practice in new subdivisions in London. That way water drains toward the house. Don't ask me why they think that's a good idea. In Sarnia's newer subdivisions, they slope the yard so water drains away from the house -- in fact, they put small drains, which lead to the storm sewers, in the centre between two opposing backyards.

mooseandsquirrel.ca — Mostly Canadian eh! : The face of anti-Semitism today

Yes, it's hard for me to figure out. Funny thing is if the Islamists succeed in eliminating the Jews, who do these lefty supporters think they'll go gunning for next? I do believe there are moderate Muslims -- eg. Tarek Fatah and Salim Mansur. However, most moderate Muslims are not as brave as those two to speak out. If the die-hard Islamists get their way, the next ones they'll target will be certain members of the left, namely gays and feminists. It always annoys me that the feminazzis are so silent on the mistreatment of women within Islam.

LOL -- actually, yesterday I add some beer to my fluid intake and I'm doing great today! And as for the sunscreen -- I burn pretty easily (very fair skinned). But I agree with you about the Vitamin D -- I only use sunscreen if I'll be out more than a half hour at a time.
mooseandsquirrel.ca — Mostly Canadian eh! : A bur oak saved and transplanted

A bur oak is just one variety of oak -- a member of the white oak family. There are several: red oak, pin oak, live oak (weird - aren't they all "live") -- to name a few. A bur oak (sometimes spelled "burr") is also called a mossycup oak. What makes it distinctive is it produces the largest acorns of any of the oaks. It's mostly found in the eastern half of North America (up to parts of Manitoba). Here's some info from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bur_oak This tree is a slow grower, but it can get quite big -- 100 ft high and a trunk diameter of up to 10 ft (yikes). Probably not the best tree for a city front yard, but we won't be living here to see it grow that big -- it'll be someone else's problem. ;) Fall colour is nothing special on these trees, but I like having an instant big tree in our yard. I'm getting too old and impatient to wait and watch little trees grow. The neighbour who got us this tree (Hydro One was going to chop it down) is a "tree guy" and gave us some tips for other trees for the backyard. I also watched some of these short videos about bur oak acorns -- or "akerns" as this good 'ol boy from Texas pronounces it: http://www.ehow.com/video_2329348_gather-burr-oak...

mooseandsquirrel.ca — Mostly Canadian eh! : Landscaping project: Holy bur oak tree!

haha -- actually I do hate golf -- but it's pretty easy to putt that hole! Got the tree planted this morning - May 18th -- about 9:30 am. A News had called on Saturday, hubby gave them the details -- that the tree would be planted in our yard between 9 and 10 am. They drove by this morning about 10:45 am (1 hour and 15 minutes too late); stopped down the street; then drove on. Hubby had some video he would have shared with them if they'd stopped here, but hey, this is the Deforest City now. After all, trees emit CO2 so they're adding to global warming, right?! A bunch of "lucky" coins were tossed into the planting hole along with some Canadian and American coins. The tree has been given the nickname the "Money Tree." Hubby is joking that if he wins this week's 649 $49 million tax free lottery jackpot, the tree will be known as the Really Big Money Tree. ;) He'll have a video online soon of the whole process of transplanting this tree. The neighbourhood enjoyed the excitement! People set up their lawn chairs and had a front row seat. The tree was actually FREE -- courtesy of Hydro One (our neighbour works for them) -- it was destined to be chopped down, so we got it. Now -- the tree was free, but the transporting of it was not -- yikes! So, it's actually a rather pricey tree -- but it's about 20 feet tall and beautiful.

Yes, Bob, I think when I write back to McGuinty I'm going to turn "tolerance" around on him and let him know that I will not tolerate any government that shows a lack of tolerance and respect for the public's right to freedom of expression. They aren't going to muzzle me. We need to keep reminding them that Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four was supposed to be read as a cautionary tale, not as a "how-to" manual.

Thanks, Hoarfrost, for letting us know about Frank Klees and Christine Elliot. Like you, I am worked up about this too. I will only back a politician who recognizes this to be an important issue. I think you're right: totalitarianism could be our future if we don't stop them now. The loss of freedom of speech means the loss of freedom period! I understand why you're distrustful of the Federal Conservatives. They have been pretty wishy-washy about the whole issue. But I do believe they feel that without a majority there's little they can do. I really can't see the federal Liberals messing with an institution that their hero Trudeau helped put in place. Plus I vowed to NEVER vote Liberal again after the sponsorship scandal, and I see no reason to change my mind about them. I'm preparing to email McGuinty and Steve Peters once again to let them know how out of touch they really are with their constituents.

I find that sometimes what gets their attention is if you CC your email to the opposition parties. And when you send out a second email on the same topic (because you received no response to the first) put "2nd REQUEST" in the subject area -- then 3rd REQUEST and so on. Now, I still think the federal Conservatives are our best chance of reigning in the abuses of the HRCs, even though they've done little about it so far. I have little to no hope that the federal Liberals under Ignatieff will do anything -- they're more concerned with the phoney-baloney climate change hullaballoo. But in Ontario, the Liberals under McGuinty are hell-bent on keeping the OHRC just as it is. That's bad news for Ontario.
