KOMO - Seattle, WA : 20-year-old drowns in Snoqualmie River | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | News

I am really sorry you had to go through that antoine. That is a very traumatic experience for anyone to go through. I live on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie less then a mile down stream from where this happened. I have lived here for 23 years, and actually grew up going to a river up in the mountains near Salmon La Sac (Cle Elum) which is a very dangerous river, much more then this one. I learned early to respect the river, to the point of being very afraid of it as a child, and even to this day. I have kids who have spent their entire lives growing up on this river (currently 10 and 13), and I have hopefully taught them the same thing, to respect the river. I have spent many a hot afternoon swimming in the Middle Fork with my kids, and I think what happens to often unfortunately is that too many times people, mostly young adults or teens are often not thinking carefully before they make the decision to jump in. It seems like every person who has died on one of our Snoqualmie rivers has been in that age group, which I know from first hand experience (having a teen age boy) can lead to consequences that sometimes are not reversible. We had bears in our garbage the other night, and my teen wanted me to put out a steak the next night so we could watch them and video them. I told him about the consequences I might face as an adult if we did that and it something bad happened. Since I really do not know what happened in this situation, I am not saying it was bad judgment in this case, but with two two kids soon to go through their teens, I just pray they make good decisions, and I can empathize with the parents of this person, knowing how tenuous the young early adult years can be. My sincere sadness goes out to the family and friends of this person, and I pray for God's strength for them in this tough time.
