It really has nothing to do with the age of the car, he stole it if it was a week old or 50 years old the police did there job trying to apprehend this flotsam, his bail was a joke! I hope the Judge that gets this makes him replace the Town Marshall cruiser (around 35K) and the car he stole, should be made to replace it with a new car. And after he serves his sentence maybe 10000 hours of community service cleaning up the highway since he likes to drive stolen cars on it so much.
