Listverse : 10 Curious Tales and Oddities From History

I've got it in a book here (which won't help anyone wishing to verify anything) but the dark day in #3 corresponds with a massive forest fire in central ontario. ( see http://www.publish.csiro.au/paper/WF05095.htm). Now - imagine the size of a fire which produces so much smoke that it darkens New England!!! That is absolutely insane and terrifying!! This list was great! I'd enjoy a part 2 (and 3 and 4...) Thank you so much! :)

I'm working on finding the source so I'll repost in a little bit but I'm almost 100% certain that there was a massive forest fire in either michigan or wisconsin and part of canada around that time - don't quote me yet though.

These two are still here, hopefully they have it fixed. I've had the problem occasionally too since the makeover. I'd like to think it's a random glitch. :)

I always thought that was stupid. Who would want to waste perfectly good LSD? It's not like it's addictive and they'll come back for more. On the other hand, selling heroin patches down by the schoolyard..... (I have school-age kids and a sense of humor, :P to naysayers) (bonus edit - heroin patches down by the schoolyard - isn't that a Paul Simon song? I need to write this!)

The word "whale" is the greek "κῆτος" - which translates as any big fish (whale, sea monster, etc). At the time, a distinction was not made between mammals and fish, if it lived in the water and it was big, it was kētos.

Online you can find "bible in a year" schedules that help break it down into manageable pieces. There are different types, some that lay it out chronologically, some that just go cover to cover. I kinda skipped Chronicles, though, it's like reading a phone book. Reading pieces in context really help with understanding the meaning and helps you see how much stuff some of those "thumpers" get wrong. :)

I didn't get a private message but that may also be me just not knowing how to check it. I didn't see a message in my email saying it, though. I'll look again. If worse comes to worse, do you have an account at reddit.com? I have the same user name there and I know that the private messaging works. :)

I've been happy with it and I'm Lutheran, we're supposed to fear and hate change!** It still loads a little slower than the old site did but it's only like a few seconds and it's still a little laggy when I scroll but it's not that big of a deal. If I didn't have 1456 open tabs right now it would probably be quicker. **My pastor told this joke at the end of a sermon: How many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb? None - Lutherans hate change. He also had lots of good jokes about our awesome potlucks and casseroles. What is life without a sense of humor? :)
