In reading what you've said, all I can think is: He is avoiding vulnerability because he is afraid. What is weaker than giving in to fear and using it as an excuse to avoid deep intimacy? Being vulnerable requires strength and that strength that stems from consistently confronting this fear until you come to realize the fear is the scariest part.

From personal experience, it seems to be something that just takes practice. The more you accept yourself as being both capable of receiving and offering support, the more organic the process becomes. I\\\'m finding that self-trust is huge factor. If I trust myself to be mostly capable of most things, it\\\'s not as scary to need help on other things...

That's a really amazing insight, Cassie! Rejection is something we all fear and the truth is that whenever we take a risk, we are opening ourselves up to rejection. In fact, the bigger the risk, the bigger the rejection. And love is pretty big. The good news is you get used to it after a while and you realize it's not that scary at all.

Very well said on all accounts... Tough to argue you here but I have yet to meet a man that truly understands what a lifetime of being called 'cute' can do to a woman. The closest comparison is the ubiquitous label of "nice guy" which makes so many men cringe... Does your girlfriend ever make gluten-free brownies? :)
