I agree; it would have been nice to see more of Jethro throughout the book, especially as he is one of the very few humans who seems to be on the goblins' side.

I think his problem with Vimes came mostly from Jethro seeing Vimes as just another rich nobleman who benefitted from, and exploited, the "lower classes" of the countryside, without knowing that Vimes himself was born in a poor area of Ankh-Morpork, and was definetly part of the working class for most of his life. We as readers know that Vimes hasn't been part of the rich and privileged for more than about ten years (I'm guessing here, based on Young Sam's age) but Jethro only sees the Duke of Ankh, who hasn't even seen fit to visit his country estate before now, despite enjoying the fresh produce and money that's made there.
