Thanks Alun. Yes, please let me know what you hear. .gov and .edu have always had big domain authority scores even without any Google preferential treatment which is why links from them are so sought after. Interestingly the only movement I am seeing in analytics at present is upward but it is early days yet.

Hi Sandra. Yes, that's correct. This will not impact desktop rankings so Moz might be comfortable losing a bit of mobile presence in the short term. And totally agree on responsive with some customisation to take into account mobile user behaviour and preferences.

My pleasure Chris.

Glad you found the post useful. The past year has seen SEO audits grow significantly in importance. Fundamental errors that are severely limiting website results are a lot more common than they should be.

Hi Andy

Yes, interesting isn't it? In the US this sort of cheating is even more prevalent in political circles (and a few of them were busted for it a few months back). Might have to run some of the NZ politicians through the test and see how they fare.

Thanks Andrew. High quality content is what we have been advocating for quite some time now. This has to make the search experience better for all.

I am sure there will be a lot of tweaking over the next few months. This is a pretty major change so there will be many bugs to sort out. The SEO blogs are bound to help out with plenty of "Google is broken and this is why" posts.

Thanks Nigel.

Glad you found the post useful. This algorithm intensifies the need for well-thought out, well resourced content creation and amplifies the need for a good understanding of technical and promotional requirements.

Yes, you are probably right about some being under the radar. The smaller projects probably won't be picked up with a manual action. But you can guarantee that signs of manipulation from Press Release and advertorial links will already be in the algorithm.

Who's going to be game to find the bar?

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Andrew. Glad you found it useful.
It is pretty easy for agencies to bamboozle clients simply because the language is so complex. And that is where the danger lies - the agency needs to articulate clearly exactly what strategies they are using to build site authority.

Thanks Sandra.
Penguin really was a game-changer - the whole SEO world shifted on its axis. What was once recommended by the large SEO blogs was suddenly attracting penalties. It has made it even more critical to monitor Google's multiple weekly updates and to be agile with your SEO strategies.
