Don't sweat it. If we all become libertarians, we won't have to worry about boilers, gas lines, or sewers, or the government taking over everything. To get rid of the evil gummint's intrusions, we'll close off the sewer lines and dig our own latrines (next to our neighbors' houses, of course. We'll dig our own wells (on the other side of our sacrosanct property). We'll burn our own firewood. There won't be any public roads, so we'll put a toll booth on the road through our property. That's the ticket! Pay as you go, wherever you go.

Exactly. Don't assume that our lack of response is lack of interest.

Yes, I should have said that fungal material is compostable (not recyclable), as is cellophane.

Who in particular are the "old time liberal FBI-skeptics" you refer to? And rather than just name names, what specific cases/situations were they skeptical of? If you have to go back to the Hoover/MLKing days, I'd say you were just whataboutting.

A typo. It's just that I forgot my self-admonition, "Reread before pressing Enter!"

"Wildcat strikes are as old as strikes. I don't see a lot new here except perhaps the scale, if that."

It's not just scale, but the medium. In the past, to initiate a wildcat strike, one would have to communicate one-on-one with each employee, getting a yes or no, then go on to the next person. With social media, a call goes out to others in the network, and the frequency and enthusiasm of the "first responders" energizes others, even those who may have been lukewarm to the idea. So McLuhan has been proven right again!

I'm not sure. Considering the historically low turnout of the 18-29-yr-olds, their fervency on this issue, and the possibly strong role of social media in getting them to vote, it's possible that they will increase their voting turnout substantially.

Yes, it is too recent. Alex Constantino pointed me to one that is very similar to the one I remember: https://boingboing.net/2016/07/13/tom-the-dancing...

Surely an enterprising start-up can market a national sales tax program that can be appended to a vendor's shopping cart.

Keith, if you're using Excel (I'm using Office 2010, not 2016 which is filled with bloatware), right-click on the vertical axis to open a menu. At the bottom you'll find a place to select where you put the horizontal axis. In your case, setting at -15000 would clean up the figure. I don't know where it is in other versions of Excel. In addition, you might color the vertical axis labels the same color as the plot lines. And to avoid kinking my neck, please make the captions etc. horizontal!

One further suggestion: in the lower graph include a grid line every four years and label only those years.
