Parenting the Tiniest of Miracles : Keeping Littles Quiet in Church

We had a priest once stand before the congregation and announce, \"I don't mind crying babies; I can't stand shushing parents.\" I realized that lots of people feel this same way! And, yes, the only way children will learn to behave in church is by actually being there. :)

You might have the best of both worlds with that handy side exit! :)

Oh, I feel your pain re. juggling the troops by yourself. I've definitely been there! (Though I do not have a #4 on the way, so that definitely adds a little challenge. :)) When I'm by myself with the littles, I really, really focus on that \"preparing\" step. I also make sure the older two use the potty RIGHT before to virtually eliminate any need for bathroom runs. For my youngest, in that 18-24 month range, I make sure I have packed her snacky breakfast and that usually keeps her content.

If you have friends, family, or neighbors who attend the same Mass (and who are not overwhelmed by their own children!), you may consider sitting near them on the Sundays your husband can't be there.

Other than that, all I can suggest is to just try to relax. Many people probably really respect you for being there at all, by yourself with the little ones!

Ooh, this is an interesting perspective too! And it makes a lot of sense. I can totally believe that children who can SEE what's going on are more likely to settle down and pay attention. I guess, like most things, we need to be willing to try different things and see what works. :) Thanks for sharing this idea too... I wouldn't have thought of it on my own!

Do you we go to the same church??? ;) We have those people, too. Great suggestion! We usually sit in the second to the back row, toward the outer edge. Makes it easy to make those (rare) exits without disturbing others!

Parenting the Tiniest of Miracles : Menu Plan: 5/8 - Attempting Ravioli

Thanks for the tip! I actually received a manual pasta roller/maker when I was a child as a gift from my aunt and uncle. It is *somewhere* at my parents' house... I should probably have tracked that down before attempting to take one this project; :) Ha! We'll see how it goes...

I'm hoping ours turns out tasty too!

Parenting the Tiniest of Miracles : The Religion of Food

Thanks, Jessie.

I totally agree that different diets are probably ideal for different stages/seasons of life. And I like this statement from you: \"... no matter what we hope or want.\" At the heart of it, I think that's a big issue. We DO want the \"magical cure\", the \"perfect answer\". And I'm not yet convinced there is one! :)

I don't think that makes you a hypocrite at all, Heather! I think that means you pick your battles. Now, hypocrisy would be if you tsk-tsked the lady buying a Kool-Aid packet... but I don't think you're doing that. :)

Parenting the Tiniest of Miracles : My Stats, according to C.

Oh, that is too funny, Stephanie! My son was way too accurate with his stats last year... down to saying I was \"5 1/2 feet\" tall. Honestly, while the teachers were impressed with his knowledge, it wasn't as fun for me! I like when they say goofy things. :)

I think shifting in a \"gentle process\" is a great way to go. For MOST people, I think we're more likely to stick with dietary changes if we do so gradually and don't shock our systems with a totally new food plan. Good for you for paying attention to God, your body, and what works for your family... all far more important than what \"the blogger next door\" thinks! ;)
