MetsBlog.com : Note: 100 Men Left on Base

I am still confused as to why the Mets did not go and get one of the power bats that were available in the off season... The Mets need a corner outfielder... Why did we not even sniff Adam Dunn?? Manny could have been had!! And why did we not look at Orlando Hudson for basement prices?? Omar has made 1 good move (Santana) and numerous "patch jobs" (Alou, Castillo, Sheffield...)

Milledge was way overrated coming out of the Mets farm system... The deal was clearly in the Mets favor...

Really? A balk to lose a game? This team needs to start winning the games they are supposed to win or there will be no playoffs this year either...

With Sheff now on the team could we see a lineup like this?? Reyes, SS Murphy, 2B Wright, 3B Delgado, 1B Beltran, CF Sheffield, RF Church, LF Schnieder, C Now that is a deep and dangerous lineup, if Sheff is hitting of course...

Don't forget that Tatis has played 3B in the past and might not be a bad option at 2B... Just about anyone is better then Castillo defensively...

This does not make me happy... He needs tons of ABs to be successful... He is a streaky hitter and a problem in the locker room when he is not happy... Why are we messing with our mojo?

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Game Recap: Mets 9 -- Orioles 8

I hate to bring up things like this, but can you imagine if Omar pulled the trigger on Manny?? You would have a line up that looks like this! Reyes, SS Wright, 3B Manny, LF Delgado, 1B Beltran, CF Murphy, 2B Church, RF Schneinder, C Would this be the best lineup in baseball?? They scored 799 runs last year! How many runs could this lineup score? 850? 900? Sadly we will never know...

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Livan officially No. 5; How the lineup will look

I am torn... Beltran would be great in the 2 hole, but you can not count on Murphy in the 5 hole yet... Wright in the 3 hole is perfect. He is the team's best hitter and needs to get ABs. If Murphy was more proven he would be in the 5 hole backing up Delgado and Beltran would be in the 2 hole... But because of timing this is the best option for the team... kudos to Manuel for speaking up about his probable lineup...

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Game Recap: Mets 9 -- Cardinals 5

"Maine's final line: 5 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs (1 earned), 3 BB, 5 K. Pretty good. I wish the walks were down and the play in the field was a bit better, but it's only spring. If Maine felt good out there, I'm more than happy with his performance." We must remember, with new mechanics comes control issues... His increased stride will cause some issues with his point of release on all his pitches and will take time to gain the control he once had... This change might actually improve his control since he will be closer to the plate at time of release... 5 innings is nice to see with someone working on new things, he needs reps right now... The more he throws the quicker he will get used to the feel of the release and his comfort level will improve...

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Repairing John Maine

Janish is correct in saying it is Physics, but it is nowhere near simple... Look into the book titled "The Physics of Baseball" you will learn so much your head might explode!! Ok, maybe not that much, but it is very interesting reading none the less...

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Repairing John Maine

Mr Janish is partially correct... The biggest difference the hitters will see is a change in the plane on which the ball is traveling... Maine will effectively be adding distance to his stride which lowers his center of gravtiy while striding, this will allow a sharper downward slope to all of his pitches, namely his fastball and cutter... A longer stride is also used to generate more power from the legs and take some pressure off his shoulder and elbow... (Think Johan Santana) As he strides toward the plate he will have more time to generate more torque from his hips, shoulders and leading elbow, thus giving him some additional whip action from his arm... The first concern must always be control... changing a delivery often times takes time and other things tend to suffer... control will be the first to lose out... but in time he will learn to hold onto the ball a split second longer with the lenthened stride and his control should actually improve... Second concern will be his legs... He will need to strenthen and condition his legs to take on more of the load while pitching deep into games...

The 'Ropolitans :: New York Mets Baseball Blog : Now Santana is not going to New York

This is stupid. He should have gotten the tests... Better be safe then sorry. If he has elbow issues in the middle of the season, or worse, he needs surgery then someone needs to be fired. Get the tests just to give everyone peace of mind...

Schneider is not known for his power, but it is always nice to see a "defensive catcher" hitting a bomb. He is going to be a major player in this offense, so we need to see constant production out of him.
