See of Bill O'Reilly had made this argument and not made it about race, I could have consigned with him. Truth of the matter, despite the reversing statistics, teen age pregnancy is still an issue. However, it's a American issue and not a black issue. This idea that entertainers can do whatever the hell they want because parents are ultimately responsible for raising their children is absolute bullshit. Oh and I love that we are giving out double passes because Beyonce just so happened to be married to the man she is singing about in Partition and waited to have a child with him post marriage. That makes this whole debate even worse. If you ask me, those two things should give her a level of maturity and responsibility that super cedes that after basic chic in the streets, but I guess not. Partition and Drunk in Love are played on the radio in heavy rotation with very little censoring. In fact, the version of Partition that is played here in New York City, is a "remix" with Busta Ryhmes in which he rhymes "she swallowed my seed." I guess I should drive in the car with the radio off, if my daughter is with me. Even if I censor my kid at home, the stuff is all over mainstream media. That's where Beyonce fails. You want to be a Grown Woman, act like one. She should have stipulated to radio that Partition should not be used as a single and she should blocked all her videos from free for all on the internet. I guess that would be too much responsibility because I'm supposed to raise my kid.

As a society our moral compass is broken beyond repair. Beyonce is not solely to blame, but she sure as hell has contributed to that broken compass. Let's continue to not hold her accountable and go "surfboarding while letting him Monica Lewinsky on our blouses." Pretty sad!

Huh? How could McQueen give us something to feel good about, when there was no such concept??? You do realize this story was taken from Solomon's autobiography? Did you know Solomon's story before this film?? Most everyone (including myself) admits that they were not aware of this story or that kidnapping happened in this manner. The point of this film was to tell Solomon's story and also bring to light some truth to just how heinous the institution was. There is an attempt to sensitize the American people and somewhat erase this stain on American history. McQueen changed that. He also shined a light of the piss poor treatment of black American history, specifically slavery, in the American public school system.

I'll be honest and admit I laughed while reading this. However, it was at the Huffpo retelling of this story that made me laugh, not the issue of mental illness. The whole bicycle being the mode of transportation added humor. Plus he forgot the organ at home and had to ride back? What kind of hospitals do they have in China? Whose the person at the hospital that told him to ride back home to get his organ? Better yet, who is this person because they should be fired. Why didn't they give this man the urgent care he so desperately needed? That is what it funny and made me laugh.

I totally missed this post. I actually took issue with this commerical not because I saw the kids as thugs, but because I felt like the stereo type was being propagated. Likek why do the black kids have to be rapping on the school bus, claiming its a limo. That's my issue. We can never see anything mainstream with black youth that depicts them in a ubber positive light. Why could we see the kids with their two-parent family or something. That's my beef.

That's the word I should have used - cold hearted. Thank you!

For me, I need to know exactly what the issue at hand was, so I can learn from it and move forward. I also need to be able to mend my feelings and get closure. I’m all for finding closure on my own in situations where I am the only party involved. This is not that situation, WE were BOTH involved.

Also, in no way am I condoning violence or saying that I would do this, but this is the type of stuff that leads to a woman seeking revenge. This is also just bad karma for any man. How do you expect to move forward yourself and be happy in whatever next relationship you end up in, when you pissed all over the person whom thought you cared about them in your last relationship.

Simply put, that’s mean and not nice. As cliché as it sounds – treat others as you would want to be treated.

Abso-FUCKING- lutely! You damn right you owe me an explanation!

I understand your points Lincoln, they are valid, but I can’t rock with them in this situation. First of all, let's forget the strategizing for a minute and think with our hearts. We are all human beings and have feelings. I'm all for women running the world and the equality rah rah, but I am realistic enough to admit that we women are emotional human beings. Yes, we think a lot and are sometimes a bit over analytical, even for the smallest things. Most importantly we are sensitive. Our methods for coping and rationalizing are much different than men. Specific to this young woman’s situation, she deserves an explanation. They were about to move in together and it appears that they spent a significant amount of time in this relationship. As Masai pointed out, this isn’t elementary school, this is adulthood.

All I'm going to say is watch season 2. Your analysis will change. Specifically your assumption about these characters. I didn't watch Grey's Anatomy, but have friends who do and they tell me that they is what Shonda is a master at. You've followed the series exactly how she wanted ypu to follow it and have come away woth the exact feelings and character analysis she wanted. So watch and be ready to be surprised. We can discuss more in-depth after you watch season 2. It's hard to discuss without giving spoilers.

Going forward, I'm going to continue to hustle and keep positive people around me. I'm also going to broaden my social circle and try to surround myself with MORE like minded people. I recently, rejoined a career development/social network that I have been a part of for a few years, but never fully took advantage of all that the network has to offer. I'm also seeking and forcing more balance in my life. I'm going to start volunteering again. I'm doing very well at work and am looking to push that to the next level as well. An important part of that is continuing to solicit and accept constructive feedback, and then execute on it.

Setback is a necessary evil. As we discussed last week, it’s easier said than done, but setback is to be expected and must be embraced. I am in tune with it and have accepted that its necessary to get me to the end of the road.

Best of luck to you on all that you do. Just don’t forget us little folks :) I swear Lincoln, I will come to Toronto and punch you in the face if you try to get cute and brand new!
