In this episode, we "meet" (as well as we can meet someone without knowing their name or face) L. L the detective. L the genius. His plan to discover Kira's capabilities and location, and prove his existence is amazingly good. The first time I watched this show, when Light killed Lindt Taylor, I was left flabbergbasted. I'd heard so much about L, how could he die in the first episode he appeared in! Then, when he revealed his plan, it pretty much blew my mind.

We also get the first glimpse at Light's true genius, with the secret drawer. It's amazingly well designed. Jura V svefg fnj vg, V gubhtug vg jbhyq raq hc cynlvat n ovt ebyr, ohg, vs V'z abg sbetrggvat fbzrguvat, vg raqrq hc abg orvat gung vzcbegnag. Uhu.
