In fact, I blocked your IP address from "Max Weller on homelessness" because you lied about and insulted a homeless man who had passed away at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. This occurred over 2 years ago. I also sent you an e-mail informing you that I had both your e-mail and IP addresses, should your persistent annoying behavior ever become a specific violent threat against me -- in which case that info would be turned over to law enforcement authorities. Many of your comments about me since that time, perhaps dozens, have been deleted by the DC website administrator(s). Nobody has any "right" to come onto any blog, including mine, and hurl lies and insults with impunity. That's why blog administrators, including me, have tools to deal with such nonsense. 20 years ago, I was a city councilman in my small Missouri hometown. One night about 2AM, I got a phone call from some drunk guy who purported to represent the KKK (I had publicly raised the issue of our city governemnt needing to hire more minorities). I invited him to come over and discuss it with Mr. Colt and I right then. He never showed up, but I had a trap placed on my phone for a while, anyway, and the city police kept up regular patrols overnight for a time. I'm not naive, and I believe in being prepared, but anonymity only ENCOURAGES stalkers.

But, I do know that many people refuse to participate on the DC's anonymous forums because of what they usually term a lack of civility. They've told me so. And, I would be far more civil myself if I were addressing someone using their true identity, simply as a matter of respect. I find it impossible to respect characters hiding behind phony screen names.

Judges nearly always grant ex parte petitions for a restraining order, knowing that both sides will be heard later on before any final decision is made. It's NOT any indication that the petition has merit.

I've already done this on one occasion in the past. I was able to do this on my own, because it was a comment made to my blog and I "captured" the necessary info. Much simpler for the DC to require real names to post comments. Certainly, that would give pause to those who make really wild assertions about any number of people.

If I were on Boulder City Council, I'd be far less concerned about Seth Brigham (whose identity I know) and far more concerned about some of the cowardly anonymous commentators online at the Daily Camera who display control issues. This latter group of individuals is far more dangerous precisely because we don't know their true identities. Of course, it's impossible to obtain a restraining order against anyone hiding behind a phony screen name.

There is a free bus operated by Special Transit -- now called Via -- which picks up the homeless at 11th & Walnut after 5PM and transports them to Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. This is only during the winter season, October 15th through April 30th, when emergency overnight dorms are open. In the morning at 8AM, the route is reversed going from BSH to 11th & Walnut, and in past years this morning service has continued over the summer season for program residents and a few other homeless people (using a van rather than a bus). Seats are limited, of course, with maybe 35-40 people able to squeeze onto the free bus in the winter and only about a dozen into the van during the summer.
