They were influenced by bands like Metallica, Alice In Chains, Pantera, and Judas Priest, and they have admitted that, and yes it shows in their music, but Godsmack has their own sound which makes them unique. By the way you think Coldplay isn't unique cause they were influenced by Radiohead, Live wasn't unique cause they share similarities to R.E.M., Korn isn't unique cause they were influenced and sound a bit like Rage Against the Machine, Marianas Trench's album must not be unique either since you can tell they were influenced by Queen and Fall Out Boy. I'm not a HUGE fan of Godsmack, but I can appreciate the impact that they will have on the hard rock genre in the future.
