First of all, regardless of how Alves "sold it," a hit to the head/face is a red card, by the letter of the law. It was blatantly intentional. Second, there's something you're not taking into account: Alves has had his ears pinned back, if you recall. What you may not be aware of is that this procedure causes them to be EXTREMELY sensitive (essentially, they cut a wedge of cartilage out and push the ears back). Alves may overact a lot, but in this instance, I'm fairly certain it hurt every bit as much as he made it look. The coach challenged it, they reviewed it, it was obvious it was a completed pass because the ball never hit the ground and the player had control. Despite this and the ability to review the call through replay, they still wrongly claimed it was incomplete. Happens all the time.
