Downtown and many formerly run-down neighborhoods have been revitalized. Property values have risen and property in Portland is generally more valuable than anywhere else in Oregon. Portland has the wealthiest and most educated areas in Oregon. The weather is subjective- many people enjoy having lush forests and mild temperatures. "Wasting money" is also subjective.
