Well considering drinking and driving has always been illegal, I certainly hope they don't choose to drive if they are impaired. The same goes for people who have a glass of wine with their meal, drink a beer at a sports event, attend a Christmas party or go to a bar. Also, there are things called walking and taking taxis. Some people even choose to ride with a designated driver! If your point is that people shouldn't drink because they might drive a car afterwards you are basically endorsing prohibition, because that could happen anywhere at any event.

Wrong. "Funny that it's only during the wine walk that you are able to drink publicly down the sidewalk" And also, being drunk on the sidewalk has never been illegal nor has it been attributed to wine walks.

Wow, it's not like they are slinging shots of Jagermeister on every street corner. Wine tasting does not get people drunk nor does it harm their health. Are you going to try to get the OLCC to ban wineries now because they "harm people?"

How about requiring all gas stations to install charging stations but then let them keep the profit they get from charging a small fee for "fill ups." This electricity shouldn't be free and the government shouldn't subsidize these, nor should they subsidize the oil and gas industry.

That is ridiculous. Have you ever even been to a wine tasting event? The point is not to get drunk but to sample wines and patronize local businesses in a social setting. Oh, and it's not strange at all, many successful cities have done wine and art walks. Maybe you should get out more.

Wow, so what I get from your post is that "people who earn college degrees are unethical and lack morals and values, and only work jobs that aren't necessary and that steal money from taxpayers." Yet I'm sure you think you have outstanding morals, are ethical and work at a "REAL" job, right? How self-righteous of you. I hope you don't ever need medical attention, as all of those doctors and nurses must be "immoral" because they have college degrees! Ironically, bus drivers don't need a college degree, so I'm not sure where you were going with that. You haven't answered any of my questions or provided any real evidence for your unfounded drivel. How typical of a knee-jerk conservative's argument.

How am I not surprised you would rather rely on your own anecdotal evidence than actual facts and numbers. Just because you "know" people who happen to be in a certain circumstance doesn't mean that it has much if any bearing on actual statistics. I'd like you to show me one grain of (real) evidence that shows college graduates don't make more than those without a degree. Oh, and you still haven't filled me in on why the most conservative states and most conservative areas of Oregon are poorest and most uneducated and why the most liberal are the wealthiest and most educated.

Nope, I equate "better off" with more wealthy. Census figures show that college grads earn an average of $57,500 a year, which is 82% more than the $31,600 high school alumni make. More of that money goes into the tax base and local businesses, providing better schools, libraries and other services while fostering a more vibrant economy. Don't let the facts get in your way now.

Well considering most of the B.S. you post is completely unfounded and false, if not completely ridiculous, it's hard to believe you know anything about Portland. If you read the guidelines for posting on this forum it says "keep it civil, keep it truthful." You spewing your false generalizations that everyone in Portland is "gang punks" or "pervs" is not only offensive, immature and uncivil, but it's not even close to truthful. I dare any of you to go up to real Portlanders and insult them to their face rather than hiding behind your computer in your fantasy world of anonymous "liberal" bashing.

Well actually people with college degrees do have higher iq's, make more money and places with more educated populations tend to be better off as a whole. You want to tell me about Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky or South Carolina's (the states rated "most conservative" which also happen to be the poorest) budgets? Notice how the wealthiest places in Oregon (West Hills, Irvington, Laurelhurst, Lake O) are liberal and the most educated? Notice how the poorest places (Eastern and Southern OR) are conservative and least educated? Funny how conservative correlates with poor, which correlates with uneducated.

I'd suggest moving to a conservative utopia like Mississippi, also known as the poorest state in the union. You are a dwindling minority up here where people have college degrees. Belligerently spouting off on news websites, anonymously, isn't helping your cause, old man. "democraps" OMG how did you come up with that one!

The way back to Beaverton can be pretty dangerous on weekend nights. The "bridge and tunnel" crowd of rowdy drunks from the suburbs who go "clubbin" in Old Town are infamous for driving drunk all the way home.

Well my post was not only a response to your ridiculous drivel but a response to much of the negativity that flourishes on these boards. Travel + Leisure would probably be quite amused at your categorizing their readers as "criminals." As for your anecdotal evidence that the whole city is made up of "gang punks and pervs," well, that just makes you sound like a bitter, senile, crotchety old fart.

Wow, leave it to the uneducated trolls to turn a positive story into a negative hate fest to project their unfounded paranoia, prejudices and angry personalities. Nothing like spewing hatred in an anonymous forum where you don't have to be accountable for your ignorance. It's funny how most of you bashing Portland don't actually live here, visit here or spend any time here but claim to know how it is the most horrible place on the face of the earth. "Travel Leisure magazine? Who, beside criminals, read this publication?" Seriously? Portland is constantly rated top or near top in many categories. Most people who live here like it. Many people who live in other places love Portland- hence our growing tourism industry. The sewage in the river problem has largely been mitigated by the big pipe project (ironically something conservatives rail against). Crime has decreased since the 90's. Downtown and many formerly run-down neighborhoods have been revitalized. Property values have risen and property in Portland is generally more valuable than anywhere else in Oregon. Portland has the wealthiest and most educated areas in Oregon. The weather is subjective- many people enjoy having lush forests and mild temperatures. "Wasting money" is also subjective. Have fun being miserable, I'll enjoy my city, thanks.

So you are going to avoid downtown because the parking is not as cheap or as subsidized as you would like? Do you realize someone is always paying for all of that "free" parking in the suburbs, whether its by taxes or included in the price of goods and services? It's surprising and hypocritical of you conservatives to complain about having to pay the real price of something.
