I assumed, like you stated above, that the Government was somehow monitoring the safety of items, especially those containing potentially hazardous chemicals, sold in stores. I'm not shocked to find most of these items are not as 'healthy' or 'safe' as the companies would want us to believe - but it is shocking to realize how much latitude they have when stretching the truth!
