"we could put a line under both of these difficult constitutional issues without them interfering with each other"...

How exactly would the EU referendum campaign be run in Scotland? Would it run in parrallel to the independence campaign? Do you think, as a dyed in the wool democrat, it is fair to the electorate to mix two distinct issues? What if Scotland provided the key votes to stay in the EU but voted to leave the UK? I could go on...

Your article appears to be an incoherent attempt to rebut the many arguments put against your attention seeking amendment - it's hard to 'challenge the current political wisdom' when on the issue of a referendum 'the whole conservative family is united'...

I am pro using any windfall from shale to build up a sovereign wealth fund (though it's not going to become the size of Norway's overnight, if ever!) - for many of the reasons outlined above.
But I am also pro paying off our natural debt - it is both the 'right thing to do' and given that we already benefit from low interest rate I don't buy the argument that our interest payments could be signifcantly reduced, though they could certainly rise.
I don't see these two positions being mutually exclusive!

I disagree on his record in Government but a fair enough position - and you are right that he should be only be brought back on merit rather than as an apology.

I agree that the 'incident' was handled badly by Mitchell (as well as others who were undoubtedly advising him). It would have been far better to present his side of the story immediately - a version which I believe and do not feel warranted him leaving the Cabinet.
