http://peggyfrezon.blogspot.com/ : Blog the Change and Me

This is a really helpful approach for those who might feel they should not speak up when they see people doing silly or just plain wrong things to animals. Each situation is different and circumstances might not always allow for an intervention. As someone from the animal welfare world with lots of board level and volunteer shelter experience, I seem to have no problem giving people a piece of my mind. It was not always this way! Approaching someone and suggesting to them they do not understand why the dog is barking, proof of which is the dog does not "shut up" when told is not easy;) But, there's an opportunity to educate and create change in the bond between that guy and his dog, so why not? As long as there is low risk of violence against you. I find people's expectations of their dogs are sometimes crazy - dogs are not doing it "on purpose" just to aggravate their person. It's the dark side of anthropomorphizing. Often this direct approach snaps people out their anger and makes them look at their own actions. Other times they swear at you to mind your business and hate you forever. But you tried to reach out and help the dog, the guy, and the community. That's how I look at it;) Best of luck!

I agree - it is a great program and now that Amazon CARES has their own 501c3 to make donations deductible, I hope for many more organizations and individuals to get involved =)

Dancing Dog Blog : FDA Update on Jerky Treats - Hold On There!

Hi Kevin! Good to hear your thoughts....it's amazing how quickly a report like this gets reduced to a distortion. That distortion suddenly becomes "fact" in people's re-reporting leaving false impressions in many minds. What is true is not always quickly or easily discerned.

So many photos, Carol - I never recall taking so many as I did on this trip!! Visiting this animal orphanage was a wonderful way to say goodbye to this area of Peru - and it was so fascinating to see the butterfly farm and the different ways they grow butterflies;) Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, treatment is less talked about because population control is such a focus, but let me tell you without those treatments, so many of those dogs would be abused out of fear, and public health would be an issue too.
