Wow......this is such awesome news! I always felt that this game could've helped spread the Wii's lifespan maybe another full year because I was so impressed by it. I was quite sad to hear it was canned, but am so satisfied that I bought a Wii U since this game is coming.

Good on you Nintendo for not letting this one slip away.

Man, I really wish Nintendo and Rare were still together. What a match made in heaven.

Hey Francis man, just wanted to say I respect you sticking your neck out like that. I saw this conversation moved over to VGChartz and people had done what they could slam what was said here. Anyways, I respect the fact you are speaking your mind and being willing to take the heat for it from others and other sites.

I understand that big buyouts don't just happen at the drop of a whim. That being said, I believe that what SEGA in it's entirety brings is fundamentally different from what Atlus alone would bring. SEGA has one of the largest third party work populations (as we see Nintendo having to go it alone from here on out), a great videogames catalog of modern and classic IP's, and I believe has a more similar approach or understand of the games market to Nintendo than any other of the Big 3. Nintendo has done the one thing SEGA has not been able to do consistently: redefine and reinvent their IP's to generate both modern and classic appeal to their fanbases, which Nintendo does each generation impressively.

Atlus would have provided a talented developer who is notorious for making the SMT/P series and other niche-games, but that would make little sense even with a dedicated fanbase. I also think it's a bit different since Nintendo has Monolith and Intelligent Systems, both of which are RPg specialists with the ability to create variety. But SEGA overall makes a lot more sense maybe not from a numbers aspect initially, but a gaming aspect. I can be honest in saying I don't have numbers on what it would take for Nintendo to make such a move, but after the financial hits the company has taken recently, it doesn't seem like the company value is at an all time high, which would be the time when you want to buy even if your performance is not as strong as you would hope it to be.

Totally agree with the Andre, NINTENDO BUY SEGA! :) Still sad about what happened to Rare, but Sega would be a mind-blowing acquisition. (in a positive way)

Good write up Francis. I feel differently about this. I don't take this as confirmation that other games won't be making their way to Xbox (who knows what Microsoft's strategy is at this point, I am not sure if they do themselves). What DOES bother me however is that again all this seems to be is a PR statement and shows how UNdedicated Microsoft is towards gaming. The reason I say that rests in the fact that Microsoft never looks for developing talent in hopes of grooming them. Microsoft loves to take fully developed studios at their peak, and then buy them out for the full price so that it gives off the image that Microsoft is SO dedicated to gaming that they aren't concerned about money.

But in truth, all this does is take a studio at their pinnacle with possibily a one-hit wonder and throw some cash at them. I wish Microsoft could show their dedication to games by looking into under-the-radar teams and build a relationship instead of dropping cash when a fad is at its peak. It just seems like such a waste of money considering how expensive game development is to have had spent that large sum on a single studio who are known for one game. But, best of luck to them regardless.

Wow. There seriously gets to a point where I wonder why 3rd parties are completely ignoring Nintendo's console. I just don't understand it. Nintendo puts Megaman as a huge upcoming character in SSB and then we don't get Resident Evil or Street Fighter. Nintendo has Namco Bandai games develop and work on SSB and then no Tales games comes to the console (even though one of the most successful Tales games was a Gamecube exclusive and Nintendo fans love RPG's) Then Ubisoft, don't get me started.... I just don't understand what is motivating these 3rd parties anymore. This industry has really gotten ugly. No wonder why Nintendo gamers don't play 3rd party games, they don't trust them anymore to deliver quality products consistently, except for a few exceptions like Platinum, etc.

I was curious about this game since I've picked up every major eshop release except this and Unepic. I will def. pick this game up now. Hopefully its as good as Shovel Knight, Armillo, Nano Assault Neo, and the others.

Hey Francis, great to see you are still expanding. I remember when I firest started following this site right after the Wii U released, so sometime in late 2012. Keep up the great work.

My question: Do Sony and Microsoft provide virtually the same role in this industry, and if so, is there a need for both? On the web everyone says that competition is good for the industry and both Xbox and Playstation are invaluable, but it seems like both companies, both consoles, and both strategies are torn from the same cloth, meaning that they are strikingly similar. Moneyhatting, Exclusive Day 1 DLC, Timed Exclusives, etc. are some tactics that show how similar these two console manufacturers are. I believe competition is good for any industry, but when you already have two comapnies employing virtually the same strategy, console layout, etc., is there still the need for both of them to exist in a single market space?

Again, thanks for making a good community here and look forward to more content on this site.
