Birding in Maine : Fight of the Hummingbirds

Thank all of you for the wonderful comments and insight! It's greatly appreciated. While there's still some "chasing" going on, there has been no more on the ground combat. Males are beginning to disperse, leaving behind 6 frolicking fledglings and a handful of adult female Hummingbirds. Thank you for stopping by! John

Birding in Maine : Birding in Maine 5 Year Anniversary

Thank you for stopping by! I have been a birder for more than 25 years. My digital photography foray began shortly before I started the web site. Prior to that, I was strickly a film photographer. So yes, I've pretty much been a life long photographer and birder. John

Hi Clia, Thank you for stopping by! The Grackle is a "refined crow", which is really not a crow at all except in appearance, and is often confused with Crows. It is not from the same family.

Thank you Larry! ISO was 320 and shutter speed was 1250. The white highlights are a tad blown just below the gorget, but a fasterer shutter speed may have rendered the shadows too dark.

Birding in Maine : Baltimore Oriole

Thank you Paul! Our Orioles are skittish too. I had to figure a way to capture photos and video of the birds with causing them to flee. Our master bedroom window faces the backyard, and one of the feeding stations is about 6 feet from the window. I lower the upper sash and poke my lens through, making sure the curtains are blocking me from view. Works most of the time!
