Winter Is Coming : More Thrones audition videos

Amy Joyce Hastings was excellent. It's too bad that it sounds as if they're looking for someone else now, someone more exotic. It's probably too much to hope for, but I hope Ms. Hastings is used in another role, then. Ideally Margerey Tyrell; perhaps Arianne, although then we'd have to wait years to see her. Maybe Jeyne Poole's part gets larger as time goes on? This actress gave Doreah so much warmth and depth in so little time, intelligence and poise.

Winter Is Coming : George confirms Tena as Osha

It's been too long since I've read AFFC, and I had forgotten those details. On the other hand, I can see Bronn making a joke out of a more genuine motive too.

A guy who just served Tyrion until something better came along -- and named his firstborn son after him too. Bronn grew on GRRM and while I always thought of Bronn as a secondary character, I wouldn't be all that surprised if someday he becomes a POV character; there aren't all that many good candidates for that in King's Landing, and Bronn could make a good one.

Winter Is Coming : More casting clues!

Sir John Standing would be a tremendous addition. He could play young enough to do Tywin, I think, but I would have a hard time expecting him to do such a minor role as Arryn. Although when I think of John Standing, I think I'll always think first of his role as Sydney Godolphin in The First Churchills. To this day I can see him breaking that white rod.

Being an American, I know that most of my countrymen will have no idea just how far back the rivalry between the Dutch and the Spanish is. It's nice to see that these days it's such an amicable one. There are vaguely Dutch and Spanish analogs in the World of Ice and Fire, to bring this a little bit back to on point.

Winter Is Coming : Jamie Sives is Jory Cassel

The easiest way to expand Jory's role would be shooting the scene where he helps Arya drive off Nymeria, and giving them both lines. It's something that the audience needs to see happen, and Arya can use more early screen time too. It also gives Jory someone to talk to aside from Ned. There could also be a scene, probably brief, with Jory, Ser Rodrik, and Beth, sometime at Winterfell before Jory departs, to establish them as a family and perhaps to clear up the possibly unexpected nature of their family relationships. Supposedly Jory was not included in the original shoot of the pilot. Hopefully he will appear, with lines, in the reshoot for the first episode.

Winter Is Coming : Conan Stevens to play Gregor

The occasion which first comes to my mind is the Lannister council of war after Jamie has been taken, toward the end of AGoT Gregor is aggressively questioning the man who is reporting the events of the battle, and explaining how you instruct scouts to report in an accurate manner. In a way he takes the opposite point of view from the marginally coherent Ser Harys Swyft, and comes off much better than the future Hand of the King does in that discussion.

Winter Is Coming : HBO hoping to show new trailer at Comic Con

I just posted the news item to my FaceBook page, which several members of the Comic-Con Committee will see; I used to be on the committee (even did Programming one year while we were still back at C-PAC) and I live half a block from the Comic-Con office. This is just an educated guess, but I'd be shocked if the con wouldn't be delighted to show such a trailer during half-time at the Masquerade, to give it the widest possible audience. Yeah, I'll be at the con, though I may have to work during part of it. So, WiC, call on me if you'd like to.

Every one of the actors cited her is too old! LF is in his late twenties, and most of these actors are in their forties, the youngest in his mid-thirties. The older Petyr is, the more unsavory his relationship with Sansa becomes.

Winter Is Coming : More casting news: Syrio and Rast

Also, there are a -heck- of a lot of characters in the Night's Watch. I can't see any reason why they couldn't combine Rast with Chett or some of his henchmen, especially in that Luke McEwen seems to be a pretty good actor; consider the difference in what he conveys in the photo used here, and the one that WiC links to above.

Winter Is Coming : We have a Sam!

Grenn, the Old Bear, and others from Castle Black will be needed before Sam, but Sam is the most important character from that set (setting aside Jon, whom we already have) so I suppose that this is why we have heard about Sam before the others. Good luck to John Bradley-West. He's jumping end at the deep end of the pool, but he'll have a lot of great actors from whom he can learn.

Winter Is Coming : Scripting Episode 6

The Eddard chapter, about sending Beric and company off to arrest Gregor, should start the next episode and lead into the Sansa chapter which follows it in the books. Highlight Beric, Thoros, Loras, and even Harwin as much as possible, include Renly if possible. For these reasons the Gregor material suggested above should be in the next episode too, perhaps as part of the teaser, along with Tyrion meeting the clansmen -- this episode's Tyrion material should definitely end with Bronn's victory. Show the scene with Doreah talking to Viserys, both of them can use more time. Have Theon hit on that girl by the tavern, maybe she's Kyra? Catelyn can talk to Sir Rodrik and the Blackfish for a little longer. Put in Arya and Sansa and Septa Mordaine and Jeyne Poole; since Vayon Poole is in this episode too, maybe even brief interacrion between Jeyne and her father? There is just no end to delicious possibilities here.

Winter Is Coming : Scripting Episode 6

More Gregor is good, more Jamie is better. He could be talking with his uncle Kevan or perhaps Sir Addam Marbrand., or even the luckless Willem Lannister, whom we can later see taken captive along with Jamie at the Green Fork. All three of those characters can use more to do. Kevan and Willem being father and son, Jamie could be talking with both of them, perhaps worrying about Tyrion and his peril.

Winter Is Coming : Roy Dotrice is Grand Maester Pycelle

I'm not complaining about Dinklage at all. But Littlefinger's part is one that can be vastly upset by aging up the actor. Petyr being fourteen or fifteen years older than Sansa is one thing, being twenty or twenty five or thirty five years older is another. He also needs to be only a couple of years at most younger than Catelyn, and I think that making both of those happen is impossible now.

Kevin Spacey is a splendid actor who could bring great depth and subtlty to Littlefinger, which the part needs. But he's MUCH TOO OLD. Littlefinger is not yet thirty, remember? Even if they age him up five years, he's still not yet 35.
