Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- What's the Right Size for a Wagon?

What, pray, is painful about the overhang? Rear overhang is what makes classic wagon proportions and classic wagon utility. Hack off inches from the rear and pretty soon you don't have a wagon anymore. Morbid fear of rear overhang is messing up car design big time right now. I agree that these "Box Wagons" are in the range of the right size. The 1965-68 Ford full size wagons would be an equivalent.

Hooniverse : Bicycles You Should Know- The Schwinn Sting-Ray Krates

I had one of the knockoffs too, I think the brand name was Derby, with the 3-speed stick setup. Despite not being a real Sting Ray it provided adequate neighborhood cred. Ultimately, we couldn't resist the urge to modify the bikes. Crazy high sissy bars were one accessory you could buy. Others were strictly DIY including various methods for extending the front forks. I remember one where the fork was extended using two pieces of twisted wrought iron from an old porch or stair railing.

Hmmm. The poor visibility from the helm is fixable, just by bolting in an elevated seat for the captain and moving the works upward accordingly. It's not as easy to fix the fact that it has all the aerodynamics of a brick. Wouldn't the boat be a handful in any kind of significant wind?

Hooniverse : Vintage Service Station with Attached Duplex Makes a Most Compelling Case for Moving to Detroit

Oh dear, if only I could teleport that about 600 miles east. When I was house hunting in Philly earlier this year, I did find something kinda-sorta like that listed at about $150K. The shop part was actually a bit larger, but with almost no surrounding open parking area. The house part was definitely not in habitable condition, and the neighborhood was extremely dodgy, and it was on an extremely high traffic street that would be very unpleasant to live on.

Glad you liked that Fairlane. Those guys are my old comrades from Savannah before I moved back north. I drove it in its first appearance in spring 2013 where we spent more time off the track than on. Since then they have done a lot of sorting out of that car and have been doing very well. There's a bit of a '64 rivalry going on with the Dart folks.

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- Why are VW Things so Freakin' Pricy?

I have to think that most of these, umm, things have rusted away, because they had no weather protection to begin with and a lot of them got used as beach cars. So, demand is likely to exceed supply. Also, although it's not microcar size it appeals to the same quirky market, and microcar prices have been even crazier for years now.

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Asks- Is Google's Self-Driving Car The Answer or the End?

I would say "taxi driver" is about to become as good of a career choice as "elevator operator." I would not be surprised if by 2020 these will be replacing cabs in a fair number of cities. Taxis will work sort of like bike share works now, except you don't have to pedal. You'll go to the nearest auto-cab stand, hop in, punch in your destination and off you go. The vehicle will drop you off and then park itself at the nearest auto-cab stand to your destination. They will be electric and will recharge when "docked."

Hooniverse : The 1965 Chevelle 300 Wagon- Less Doors, More Cool

A stock example! Amazing. I thought that all 1000 of the 620 produced had been rodded to within an inch of their lives. It's amazing that GM bothered to produce these. It's hard to believe that it was just to amortize the cost of the El Camino doors, because the C pillar and some of the side glass are also unique to this model.

Hooniverse : Hooniverse Obscure Muscle Car Garage - The 1959 Dodge Silver Challenger

Wow. I have reacted to many of the "Obscure Muscle Car" features with "Come on, what's obscure about that?" Not this one. Never heard of this one before. Not sure I ever saw ANY '59 Dodge post coupe before; usually if you see a Mopar post coupe of this vintage it's a Plymouth. So this one wins the obscurity prize going away! A lot of the early silver paint jobs were notorious for fading and/or peeling. Makes me wonder about the ambitious claims of going 2-3 years without needing waxing.
