KVAL - Eugene, OR : Health care law upheld: What it means for Oregonians | Politics | Eugene News, Weather, Sports, Brea

I've been away, but I do understand your point, and I do agree, except they aren't forcing you to buy health care. They're forcing you to buy insurance. My friend laughs and asks me who do I think is behind Obama? The insurance companies get paid whether we like it or not. It's not like you get a choice, like whether or not to have car insurance. You don't have to own a car. And it's not like paying taxes, which go toward supporting your country (and I know that's a laugh in itself). This forces you to pay a private company. If they're so keen on "fixing health care" in this country, leave the dmd insurance company (e.g. middleman) out of the loop, and go straight for the health care problem itself. (Such as charging $50 for an aspirin.)

Some people try very, very hard not to be on the government dole, but this will be enough to force them over the edge if they have to choose between buying basic necessities or buying insurance. What's wrong with fixing the health care industry itself and cutting out the middleman (insurance companies)? That just baffles me.

I was trying to figure out where it said she went back after teddy bears, but it doesn't say that. It says the teddy bears in her bedroom survived - not that she went after them. She'd gone back in with her grandmother - probably to see what exactly was on fire, although the article doesn't say that either. In any case, neither one of them should have gone back inside once everyone was out and safe.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Plans to drug test welfare recipients get momentum | National & World News | Seattle News, Weather,

Employers all over require their employees to submit to a drug test to get a job, as well as periodic and/or random drug tests to keep those jobs. How is that any different from asking public assistance recipients to undergo the same? I don't see how something like that assumes every person receiving benefits is a drug user, any more than employers assume all their employees are drug users by requiring periodic and/or random drug tests. I see it simply as a requirement to get and keep your benefits, whether that benefit is public assistance or a paying job.
