It will be untethered jailbreak if it is an old bootrom. Here are the steps U should follow:
1. Install itunes 10.5, Sync and backup yr iphone. (Make sure U do backup also).
2. Using redsn0w_mac_0.9.9b5, create basebandless IPSW. This IPSW will have file name NO_BB prefix (This is not the usual custom firmware, its IPSW itself without baseband, so that baseband of iphone wont get updated. ).
3. Using Extra's/Pwned DFU Mode in redsn0w, put yr phone in Pwned DFU Mode.
4. Open itunes, if it is Mac, Press Alt + Restore, and point to NO_BB IPSW. Remember never give Stock IPSW during this step. (Your phone needs iOS5 in it for redsn0w to jailbreak it, so we do this step).
5. Once yr phone finish update without error, open redsn0w again, click jailbreak. It will ask U to put the phone in DFU mode. (Am not sure whether it will ask iOS5, if it asks, U can go to extras and Select IPSW, and point to Stock iOS5. Redsn0w wont upgrade the baseband).
6. After jailbreak finished, U can install ultrasn0w through cydia and unlock yr phone.
Good Luck

Step number 3 is wrong. U should not unzip the 4.3.3 ipsw.
Open any folder in your PC. Go to Tools, Folder Options, View. 'Untick' Hide Extension for known file types. Click OK. Now you will be able to see 4.3.3 file as .zip. Now rename .zip to .ipsw. Give OK to the warning message appears. Now proceed with step # 4.
Edit: This is applicable after u download the correct ipsw for iphone 4 if it still shows as .zip file.

Re-run redsn0w giving 'just boot tethered now' option only. If that doesnt work, re-run redsn0w giving 'install cydia' option only.

We do not know whether an unlock will be there for this baseband. But from past experience and looking back into history, Dev Team came up with unlock tool for most of the basebands as and when it was ready.
They never tell publicly what works they are doing or what progress they have made in it. However, some hints u may get if u follow @musclenerd or @sherif_hashim in twitter, mostly when they reach to a final stage. So the conclusion is, we will get to know something only when it is ready. If we dont hear anything means, they are working on it.

At present there is no software unlock available for that baseband. U can update to latest firmware preserving yr baseband using tinyumbrella, or u can use pwnagetool to upgrade and jailbreak 4.3.1 preserving the baseband.
Preserving the current baseband is always good as we do not know what all basebands will be covered by future unlock tools if it ever comes!

Am sorry if that happens to U. My 3GS jailbroken in 4.3.1 with pwnagetool has the vibration notification problem as I mentioned earlier, but no real mode change as u mentioned. I tried the SMS now and works perfectly.
Just wanted to know something, when U toggle the switch from normal to silent, what the visual notification shows? It should show the 'Bell' with a 'Strikeoff mark'.

I dont understand why ppl are frustrated of this problem. Afterall, the switch works perfectly when U put the switch in silent mode towards down (phone becomes in silent mode) and back into normal mode when the switch is moved up. Only problem is the vibration notification at the time of moving the switch. This also can be changed by continuous toggling of the switch three times.
