While I agree with your intent, be careful with that paintbrush...everything in moderation. I have cops in the family and they are not all a bunch of heroes. Some of them are worse than the criminals they arrest. On the whole, they are honorable but remember everyone does what they do for the own reasons. Far be it for us to judge those reasons, only the fruit of their action. I LOVE the flat tax idea though...it would make things too easy but I know a lot of accountants that would be unemployed and on the public dole! ;-)

Although I feel your frustration this would create a huge problem...aside from it being un-constitutional. Instead of being run around by ACORN, we'd be run around by Bernie Madoff's and the rich man has WAY more resources at his disposal to keep us down. Not the least of which is the ability to actually paid hired gunman and lawyers to keep us drowning in our sorrows.

Hi All, A book I ran across last year was Thomas Sowell's "The Vision of the Anointed". He wrote it back in 1995 (I think) and it's nice and short for anyone with ADD but I think it describes EXACTLY what's happening right now in the current administration. It actually makes an incredible case for conservative thought. The best part is the explanation of acquiring wealth and how it changes as we grow older.

Hi Sperreault...teachers aren't the problem. In fact, they can be the only defense. Thank God for good teachers...the problem (and I think as 1SGUSARET's comments are more related to) is the Teacher's Unions and how those unions allow bad policy and top down decisions to inhibit the education of our children. Why is private education better than only (sometimes) the most affluent school districts? Especially when those private schools do NOT hire union teachers. Another question would be why do you need a teachers union at all? Doesn't it bother you that most of your union dues go to political causes (like the Democratic party)?

Amen, brother...ask Hilary Clinton, Joe Biden and any other Democratic Senator after 9-11 who was the biggest threat to U.S. security in the world and guess what the answer was (back then)...you guessed it! Iraq. Include in that list, Bill Clinton and (I think before he voted and then after he gave a speech) John Kerry as well.

Has anyone seen this op-ed in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/25/opinion/25desan... This was the DeSantis resignation letter that Glenn read on his show yesterday morning. The letter is fantastic but better than that are the comments afterward. I can't believe what some people are actually thinking...if anyone wants I can cut and paste the text...

You are 100% Right!!! We need to ELIMINATE money and politics. It will never happen because why bother going into politics if you can't make money (in one form or another)? The current trend has swung against our ideals but the pendulum will swing back. Most people are sheep and they are lead by the nose (or eyebrow) ring. Americans are a hard bunch to call to muster but they always seem to react in a most auspicious way when faced with things that just grate against their ideals. I have faith that we'll see it in 2012. If not then you know what Pliny the Elder said: "Democracies get what they deserve."

The books are OK. They are more appealing from a way of interpreting Revelations with a bringing to life of the end times. They got a bit dopey after the 3rd one and I couldn't read it anymore. If the Rapture is your thing, then it's a good read but don't take it too seriously. They are not prognostication books more like taking the idea and molding it into a modern perspective. The beginning of the book starts with the Rapture and how people disappear. If that actually happens and we are Left Behind, we better find a church quick and throw ourselves on God's mercy... The last thing I worry about is the anti-Christ only because with God as my co-pilot all is right.

It is absolutely available on DVD however, the book by David McCullough is truly remarkable. If you have NOT read a lot of American History, this is DEFINITELY the book to start with. After that, you can make your to 1776 which is almost as important. The mini-series is very well done but the book is MUCH better because it goes into much deeper detail. The series tends to lean a little more on the focus on the "pride" issue. It also doesn't do enough justice to Adams work in Europe during the war and especially his time in Paris. One other excellent book is the Alexander Hamilton biography by Ron Chernow. A REAL American inspiration. You'll find the portrayal of Hamilton in the mini-series VERY weak. Factually pretty accurate but without a depth of understanding what he was really about. Jefferson is interesting but out of all the founding fathers, I like his writing the best but his principles the very least. Jefferson was great about speaking ideas but at heart had no real physical connection with the "every" man. Adams worked his butt of to accomplish anything he did. Jefferson just kind of floated around and was a rare genius. Washington was another amazing story. He aligned closer to Hamilton and Adams because he actually had to achieve against large odds to be successful. The bio by Joseph Ellison was excellent (and appropriately named His Excellency). All of these are great insights to understand that history was made and formed by the thoughts and sheer will of a few men. This fact should not only make us honor them more but also put us on the highest guard because a man with a vision and an iron will can shape history...lucky for us, they did it for our good. The next history shaper may not have our best interest in hand (but he will tell us he does...;-)

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Does the US Treasury Secretary Want A Global Currency?

TheDonk13, I think you are actually onto more than you know...the killing of God in the vast majority of Americans is being supplanted by the almighty government and what it can and should do for them. It is this actual belief that they can bring Utopia here on Earth without the need of God. Leftists and Liberals REALLY believe that. They think that they can change/shape the world into the image that they believe is better than ours. We on the other hand accept our plight on Earth and try to do the best we can by the rules God laid down in his original covenant. We know that our reward will come in fulfillment of our end of the promise. America is an extension of that covenant. Without God, we are lost but that is a personal choice for everyone to decide on their own but when you REPLACE God forcefully, well, I don't think the Lord Almighty is going to sit right with that. No matter how many good intentions you pave along the way - the road leads in the same direction - Hell.

They're government issued and free to those who can't afford them out of pocket. Since you pay taxes, you'll actually have to pay the 1000% markup for them though. 1 month of credits should cover it.

The government spends so much money on the poor and less fortunate is because they want to build constituents that are indentured to vote for them to keep the money flowing. I don't think you can't whitewash any one whole group to say that they don't pay their taxes; everyone avoids them as much as possible. The fact that taxes are unfair to begin with is the problem. Fairness is saying the tax rate is 15% for EVERYONE regardless of what amount of money you make. If you don't make ANY money, you don't pay ANY taxes. With regards to Christians stepping up to the plate and that government taking care of the poor, that's just a load of crap. Check your statistics and you'll find the LARGEST supporters of poor around the country and the world is supplied by Christian organizations. And whereas the church uses it's laity and clergy to deliver their support, the government builds jobs and bureaucracy to siphon off proceeds to feed itself. You should read: "Vision of the Anointed"

After Ronald Reagan's tax rate cuts in the 1980s first brought out anguished cries of "tax cuts for the rich," it turned out that the federal government collected more tax revenue than ever and that people in upper income brackets not only paid a larger amount of taxes than before, but even paid a higher share of all taxes than before. How could this be? This takes us back to slippery words and sloppy thinking. What was cut were tax rates. What went up were tax revenues. At lower tax rates, it paid to take money out of tax shelters and put it somewhere where it was more productive, both for the individual investor and for the economy as a whole. As the economy expanded and incomes and employment rose, tax revenues rose, despite lower rates being charged for a given income. The incomes of people in the higher brackets went up especially sharply, so the total taxes they paid also went up especially sharply -- again, despite lower tax rates. -Thomas Sowell (2004)

Centerleft: "Socialists" for Conservatives is like the antithesis of everything we stand for. Nazi's were actually socialists (read "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg). Liberals/Centrists/Progressives are all cloaked in ideals like "fairness", "helping people less fortunate" but if you really scratch the scab and look below the surface there is an ultimate ideology that is pervasively antagonistic to the core principles of what this country was founded on. The principles are simple: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The idea that we the people can make laws based on our moral code as citizens and not be ruled by some elite or hereditary body. You may be a pragmatist but you are looking short-shortsightedly at what's at stake. Socialism was developed as the answer to God. Why pray to a God who can do nothing when we can create an entire "State" where everything is fair? Of course, not many things in life are and the quicker we learn this, the quicker we are able to deal with adversity when it comes our way. Our society as a whole has become too comfortable with immediate success. Hard work and perseverance is a thing of the past. Capitalism works. Unfair advantages and skewing the system is what creates the problem. “'tis we that are blind, not fortune: because our eye is too dim to discover the mystery of her effects, we foolishly paint her blind, & hoodwink the providence of the Almighty.” – Sir Thomas Browne
