I think people have missed the thrust of my comment.

The DUP has always been a party choc full of ignorant fundamentalists, indeed the party was founded and built by an ignorant fundamentalist. If Bill was prepared to vote for them for years in the first place he clearly had no issue with the DUP's sectarian ideology, presumably he will be voting TUV/BNP next time round?

These are not parties with real, workable manifesto's, they are all parties of protest. The PUL community have been protesting for so long I think they have forgotten what real governance looks like.

Why they insist on protesting against a shared more peaceful future in the first place I don't know, to be frank, I don't most of them know either. It is like a family disagreement that rumbles on for decades by the time they get together again no one can remember why they fell out in the first place.

To be fair I think the strategy worked reasonably well. The police rightly guessed that the trouble would by and large remain localised within the usual hot-spots. By going in heavy handed they could well have inflamed the situation further and stored up problems for the future within the PUL community.

The fact that 700 arrests were subsequently made goes to show that the police were indeed keeping a very close eye on the situation, never mind the intelligence the probably gleaned as a result. Loyalists exposed themselves and gained nothing.

What are your reasons Bill? Have they become too moderate for your liking?

Your letter raises more questions than it answers.

DUP hypocrisy.

While distasteful, last time I checked it is not illegal to wear a balaclava.

"The possibility of building a boardwalk was not considered a safe alternative, due to the proximity of the construction site," a council spokesman said".

Really......I would love the Council to present the study that assessed these risks? Maybe the BT could push the Council for details? ohhh wait....real journalism....HA!

Quite obviously BS statement from an un-named source who does not want to be held accountable.

London and Dublin have already decided and stated what will happen. Joint rule. As ever Ed you fail to see the real issue. It is moderates, progressives and the centre ground who are disenfranchised and not voting. They refuse to vote because they see nothing worth voting for. As less moderates vote, the Sinners and Dupers will move further from the centre (if that were possible) resulting on one outcome.

Apathy will kill Stormont in it's current form.

It is worth waiting to see what happens in Scotland come September before attempting to predict future outcomes in NI. How will the PUL community react if the root of their 'culture' abandons all that they claim to hold dear?

So not NI then?

Now that culture is a headline figure the PUL community have now decided the arts do matter. So predictable.

To the cowards who down-vote me without comment. Please do explain how NI's electorate routine support for sectarian political parties signals any support for a shared future?

Oh wait....it does not!

Oh yes, the relief is palpable for sure (see definition for sarcasm).
