The issue isn't that her remarks were anti-Semitic but that what she said is inconsistent with her party's policy--and she is its foreign affairs critic and deputy house leader.

Isn't the problem that the BDS movement (including its ideological relatives like Israel Apartheid Week) is comprised both of those who favour two states and those who do not favour the permanence of Israel established under international law by partition as a "Jewish state?" Libby Davies was basically asked where she stood in that camp and gave an answer which suggests she doesn't believe in the NDP's own two state policy. That's fairly shocking for a party's foreign affairs critic discussing what is one of the most crucial foreign policy issues of our time.

The story was about Israel allegedly killing people to harvest their organs-there is no evidence that this is true. As for the "it turns out" theme, newspapers are supposed to investigate before they go with something of that nature.

FYI this isn't my job any more than your commenting here and elsewhere is your job.

But you seem to think people with certain views are suspect when they comment in various spots, as if we're meant to hang with the Right. Funny that.

The thing is I'm tired of it too-I'm not really interested in the back and forth over there-I'm more interested in how we discuss the issues here in Canada.

What makes it a lunatic rant? I think he is dead on regarding this alleged news story. The story didn't appear in the Saudi or Egyptian or Sudanese press-it appeared in Sweden. Worse, as he point out, those who expressed disagreement were falsely accused of interfering with freedom of the press. Since Sweden is part of "the West," it seems newsworthy from a Canadian context. Plus Farber wasn't raising the issue anew in Canada-it was already out there.

As that article shows, there was and is no evidence that Israel killed Palestinians to harvest their organs.
I agree that the Swedish newspaper article indeed was about hearsay-hearsay that was unsubstantiated, wrong and basically the Palestinian version of the blood libel against Jews. It wasn't a news story yet was reported as such.
If the angle of the story was to report on the mindset of Palestinians who believe in myths of blood libel, that is something for a newspaper to include. But I would have gone with a story about the pernicious broad anti-Semitism in Palestinian society that not only is socially acceptable but is inculcated at many levels of society. It seems your take on it is more that if they believe it, that belief doesn't reflect on their societal institutions even remotely. Yes, many Palestinians have many reasons to hate the State of Israel but that shouldn't excuse irrational intolerant hatred.

If there is an English translation of the Swedish piece I haven't read it but the "in order to" phrase was in some of the original reporting including in this one:

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1108384.html

Here is one possible translation-no idea if it is accurate:

http://www.israel-palestinenews.org/2009/08/farwa...

I don't think that phrase is in fact used there but the inference in the reporting is pretty clear. The title drives that point home: "Our sons plundered for their organs."

The allegation that was so controversial, which is crystal clear from the Sun article that you linked to, was that the Israeli state killed Palestinians in order to harvest their organs. There's still no evidence of the truth of that charge.

I totally agree-they're rolling down the slope and at an accelerating pace.
