A US attack on Iran would result in the loss of a significant portion of our Naval forces in the Strait, if not a complete loss. Getting the US Navy out of the Strait makes room for the Russians and Chinese, who have both been arming Iran with the weapons needed to defeat the US Navy.
There is a very good reason the USA has not attacked Iran yet over it's Nuclear program, victory is not assured.
