Um, not exactly. The population of the Dominican Republic is dominated by peoples of the Iberian Peninsula. The African Haitians kicked out nearly all whites during the revolution against French colonialism. They then forcibly occupied the Dominican Republic which the Dominicans resent to this day. There are many parallels between the plight of Haiti and the conversion of Rhodesia to Zimbabwe. Colonial powers provided the infrastructure for success. When the natives/slaves gained control they neither had the ability, education or discipline to form a functioning nation. The more I learn about colonialism the more I think it would have benefited the natives or slaves for the colonials to remain in power if only to provide the necessary educational foundation for the oppressed peoples to transition into a functioning republic that could defend itself from tyranny and despotism. In the case of many of these failed nations in the wake of colonialism it has been a case of "be careful what you wish for" for the native populations.

Someone please remind me why Sean Penn or Wyclef Jean have any political importance? Why does Penn have a national platform that pretends to take him seriously as a political pundit or expert? He is an actor, the weight of his opinion is no more than my own. What qualifies Jean to be the president of a nation? Because he raps about perceived social issues but then evades taxes and mishandles not for profit funds? Is it his level of hypocrisy that vaults him to legit candidate status or his complete lack of successful executive experience? I'd assume it is a combination of the two since the media installed a similar candidate in the White House.
