Kudos to young Davenport for his life saving action! Parents should both be smacked - father for his inattention and both for reenforcing negative behavior with a reward. Had a babysitter been that careless, we wouldn't hear the end of it. Dad has his head elsewhere and hohum...

Yes sad and unfortunate. Why is there only coverage about Mr. Bjaranson's personal life? I am sure the others had equally loving families and acquaintances. Rest in peace all lost aboard the Lady Cecilia.

KATU - Portland, OR : Adams says city can\'t afford GOP presidential debate at OPB | Politics | KATU.com - Portland News,

The debate has been on the books since October and there were no concerns voiced at that time. It's an election year, is he going to complain about security costs whenever a candidate campaigns here? Mayor Adams gladly paid thousands of dollars on a daily basis to keep Occupy Portland illegally entrenched in a downtown park. He now balks at the City's security costs on an event that will bring Portland positive national attention and generate revenue for the city's hospitality industry. Sometimes I have to wonder who's worse, Sam or the people who have kept in office?

KATU - Portland, OR : Police prepare for potential clash at Occupy Portland | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News,

Seriously!? City government has sunk to a new low. Why issue an edict you're not willing to enforce? Why spend tax dollars for a partial clean up and police overtime when there was no commitment to evict Occupy Portland? Adams could care less since he's wisely not running for reelection. Obviously Chief Reese is a lap dog and we can expect more of Sam's Shenanigan's from him if elected. Certainly he has to comply with Sam's wishes, but give us a sign that there is an independent thought in his head. Are there any real leaders left in this City?

KATU - Portland, OR : $47M building for the homeless opens in downtown | News | Northwest Portland News

Bud Clark is like an STD you can't shake. As I recall we tried something similar during his administration and the homeless were headed here in caravans. That, coupled with the non-enforcement of immigration issues and the dissolution of the drug and intelligence units of the Police Bureau forever more put Portland on the map as the place to be if you were homeless and/or an illegal selling drugs. I haven't lived in the City limits since 1980 and damn proud that i don't support the Socialist Republic of Portland!

And this Felon continues to be employed in Clackamas County with our tax dollars. (I assume he is a Felon as he agreed to enter a guilty plea and repaid $50,000. That amount makes it a Felony). We shouldn't be surprised if he pilfers money from his current employment to pay restitution and court costs.

GEEZ -- Let's address the problem and not the symptoms - Attack the gangs! Most states have enhanced sentences for gang members convicted of crimes involving gang activity, why not work with the legislature on a similar statute for Oregon and the rest of the state would also benefit. Other cities have gone after gangs in civil court filing injunctions and restricting their operations and this tactic has proven very effective. Portland already has a curfew but it's not being enforced because of a lack of manpower at PPB and JDH. How about a real gang outreach with enough qualified resources to actually make an impact as opposed to the token effort currently in place. If you don't inoculate the next generation it doesn't matter how many are incarcerated when there are fresh recruits ripe for the picking. By the way Your Honor, the only people that don't report gun thefts are the ones that lawfully can't posses them or the gun was stolen in the first place!

KATU - Portland, OR : \'No-fly zone\' pilot: A beautiful flight ... then \'shock\' | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Tra

Mr. Daly is clearly in the wrong and knows it. Federal Air Regulations require pilots in command of a flight to perform certain preflight actions. Sec. 91.103: Preflight action. Each pilot in command shall, before beginning a flight, become familiar with all available information concerning that flight. When he called for his weather briefing, the briefer should have advised him of any NOTAMS in effect. NOTAMS are Notices To Airmen which would include TFR's, Temporary Flight Restrictions. I doubt that Mr Daly bothered to get the mandatory briefing. Although nothing required him to talk to a controlling agency on his flight, the majority of pilots flying VFR avail themselves of Flight Following. A service provided by the FAA that monitors the progress of the flight and gives traffic advisories in congested areas, such as the Seattle area. This kind of flying gives General Aviation a black eye. http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance...
