She didn't actually want to hurt her sister. She was simply jealous. The before mentioned Nightmare Forces took advantage of her weakness and turned her into Nightmare Moon. Exactly like how they did with Rarity. Rarity never wanted to hurt anyone, she was just feeling insecure and the Nightmare Forces, again, took advantage. Relatable. That's what I think makes her different from others. Everyone has their own way of connecting with her. I, personally, relate in a couple ways. The awkwardness in Luna Eclipsed is similar to how I am when I'm around people I don't know (thanks to some social anxiety), the bubbliness in the comics is how I am with close friends, and the whole idea of her experiencing such a traumatic event as being taken control of by the Nightmare Forces, transforming into Nightmare Moon, and being banished to the moon by her sister can cause depression (in the real world, at least) making her the most identifiable pony to those of us who are dealing or have dealt with depression themselves. TL;DR Luna is the most relatable in many different ways.
