How on earth can anyone take the Economist's forecasts seriously? Mainstream economists have been wrong on every major call in the last 50 years: the 364 in Thatcher's time (google it if you are too young); the ERM, wrong; the Euro, wrong (Brown saved us from that); no warning of 2007/8. Whereas those can be put down toi incompetence, Project Fear was just lies - surely nobody can be that incompetent? Now we have Project Fear Mark 2 and some still believe it - incredible.

I shall, for the first time in my life, vote Labour. No point voting for any of the others, and I want this government kicked out. I am fully confident Labour will make such a mess of the economy they will not last long in government - assuming they still let us hold elections once they are in power.

I find your comments on the housing market laughable. My two children bought their own homes before they were 30 (neither has a partner to help with the mortgage). As for crashing the market, how does that help exactly? Are you seriously suggesting it would help renters buy? But then you are advocating high taxes on purchase, so maybe not. You want everyone to have to rent then? If prices half nobody will be able to buy unless they have cash, as no lenders will be in the market. And you call yourself an economist - well, that's an insulting term these days anyway, so probaly appropriate.

Actually I do have other things to do. And you should read what I said: I did not say 'the EU', I said the 'Eurozone'. A combination of the new Italian government, a worldwide recession, Target 2, and the central bank ending QE will start the rot.

Sorry, much as I enjoy this I have to work.

Much of that will be covered by the FTA. Let's just agree to differ, I am not going to convince you and you won't change my mind.

You are welcome to the EU. The Eurozone will start to implode next year when the EU will welcome an FTA with us.

Aaah, so now we are talking just about animals - I conclude from that you accept that goods can pass through the border with electronic checks.

The health of animals has to be checked at a physical border why exactly? If animals are to be exported from, say, Northern Ireland to the South, can a vet not check them at the farm before they leave? The transporter is then sealed. Simple really.

Things move on, technology included. I am not commenting further because it is so obvious how this will work that I can only conclude you are just trying to wind me up..

Errr.. as I am sure you are aware the idea of a gate and cameras has been superceded by a mobile phone app.

It is clear to me that you just don't want it to work rather than believing it cannot do so.

Wrong on both counts. No idea wht you have been reading, I got mine at http://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/STUD...

He also lists various countries around the world where technology is providing a low-friction border. Why not in Ireland?
