I've always found opinions like this interesting. British intelligence is arguably one of the best in the world (if you'll excuse the whole supporting of George Bush's fairy tale of WMDs in Iraq) . Not too shabby in the counter-intelligence realm either. They gave the IRA more than a few fits in their time. There is the aspect of "proof" in our legal system. What can be proven in a court of law. If MI5 kept surveillance on Marty they were either asleep at the wheel, which I sincerely doubt, or they could not come up with enough evidence to bring him to justice. Do I believe Marty to be innocent? Nope. But it's not what I or anyone else believes that matters. It is what can be proven in a court of law by evidence of wrong-doing.

Disengage this individual Bernard. He's trying to draw someone into his perceived version of events and wants to debate. Classic example of what stalls the actual peace in the North. Not being able to let go or acknowledge the fact that there were two-sides to the conflict both of which were woefully wrong and inexcusable.

There's a big difference in trying to illicit a negative response and making a legitimate statement. The conflict was never one sided as wolfie's statement implies and whataboutery doesn't do anything but stir the pot.

I left Belfast in the late 70's. I'd seen my share of, well, just about everything. Riots, beatings, shootings, dumped bodies. Why would anyone leave all that behind? Self-preservation and clarity that's why. I've been back a few times and things have changed. My kids had a few questions when they were younger on our trips back home. I'm thankful they don't understand it. I guess if you're not from our little corner of the empire, it's hard to understand the annual thuggery that takes place. I agree with you. You take away somethings power to offend then it has no power.

Well apparently they had enough time on their hands from all that collecting of protection money and drug dealing to do a little environmental graphic design. I guess they thought they school needed something. Hmmm, yes, a few flags should shore things up nicely. Ahhhhh! Tis summer in the North and with the Glorious 12th just around the corner, yobs, low-brows, knuckle draggers and first generation out of trees on both sides of the divides are putting gearing up to put their best ignorance forward.

A good point is made about a person's sexual health being only as good as the person they're with. Example: If you've ever had a cold sore on your mouth you have the ability to pass that on to rather "delicate" areas even when you exhibit no symptoms. It's called shedding and there are no visible signs that you are shedding so partner beware. So before the peanut gallery ensues, I come by this info because my missus is an OBGYN.
