WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Jury delivers Payton verdict | WTHITV.com Paris, Ill.

What happened to this young man and his mother is beyond sad. I grew up in a similar situation in the same town. The system there does nothing for the victims. Absolutely nothing. Terry will pay for his mistakes, but sending him to prison is wrong. Yes, he should be punished for the murder, be it self-defense or uncontrollable mental breakdown. Unfortunately, being tried in the same county this offense occurred was wrong. If you cross the street and speak to your neighbor, the entire town knows about it and the conjecture begins. The trial should have had a change of venue - first step that should have been completed for his defense. It is just sad what happened, and the wrong of the situation that led to this end result can never be corrected now. If the 'system' had stepped in and done something for Terry and his mother, this would not have happened,. Paris, IL is a nothing, has nothing, and will always be a nothing.

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Woman in court for animal cruelty | WTHITV.com Terre Haute, Indiana

Well, what is there to say??? A great deal of course! This type of human behavior is too familiar in society today. My pets are very spoiled, and very well cared for. It is beyond my comprehension to understand the lack of intelligence, lack of emotion, and lack of mental capacity it takes for a person to do this type of thing. People often say, "to protect someone I love, I could kill if I had to". Other people, don't care. They can kill because they do not care. They are lacking something in their essential make up that allows them to kill for no reason, or simply because they can. If she can do this to a pet, an animal, then she could do this to a person. My sympathy goes out to these animals, to the officers, the medical staff and the neighbor involved.

REALLY! THEY ARE ALLOWED A BOND??!!! THEY ARE NOT GUILTY!!!!!! How could a court even accept this plea when the children were found in the stated condition?? I sincerely hope that the courts give the maximum sentence, and the whole system in this county is over-hauled! Child advocates need more pay, state guidelines need changed, and, Yes I know I am preaching to the choir... change requires action...

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Couple charged with binding, abusing kids | WTHITV.com Terre Haute, Indiana

Abuse is about anger and power. It gives the abuser power over the person/animal being abused, control of their fate. Unfortunately, it is often a learned behavior. The question of how these people became foster parents will hopefully lead to an investigation of the process, and how these "foster parents" are checked and how continued supervision of these people is done. That raises yet another issue of how understaffed & underpaid government agencies are. It is a vicious cycle and it will continue. Hopefully, these people will never be allowed to be near children again. The victims suffer for the abuse in many ways, and it leaves a lifetime with emotional and mental issues for them. And the cycle continues.

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Sullivan man encounters internet scam

A similar incident happened to me when I tried to sell and antique sewing machine on Craig's List. There were 2 bogus buyers that tried to "purchase" the antique. The first one sent a check from a "Coca-Cola" savings account said she would send a money order, which she did. The first one I knew was bogus, it wasn't printed on water-marked paper and of course the logo was wrong. My bank explained that once the "check" was cashed, I would then be responsible for the amount. The money orders were also obviously bogus, and that person also said they were out of the country. I didn't bother to ask my bank, I just sent the money order back to the return address. Since then, I have not tried to sell anything online. I have also had stay at home job offers from people that have businesses that are supposedly based in foreign countries, and there are orders that they want processed, checks as well. This is also a scam. It's sad really, that people do this kind of thing.

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Community reacts to vandalized flags | wthitv.com

My stepson is one of the volunteers that worked the past 2 nights putting those flags in the ground. It was no easy task. They had to use a screwdriver & hammer to make the holes! Then put the flags in the ground. The ground is extremely dry & hard. Putting these flags out to memorialize the military service men & women is an event my stepson has volunteered for the past 2 years. He is a JROTC member at THS, and very proud of our country's military, planning to join after graduation. Whomever committed this act of vandalism has no sense of the importance of this event, and has shown a complete lack of caring for the sacrifice of time & of lives lost, that our military and their families make, for our country to remain free. This doesn't mean freedom to commit a crime. It means the freedom to pursue a way of life that is chosen by the individual. My hope is that these person(s) are caught and given a sentence of community service in a VA hospital. Let them see what this memorial stands for.

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Wrong dog euthanized as violent dog gets adopted | wthtiv.com

This is very sad, a sad mistake. Although how someone can mistake a Mastiff for another dog is questionable. In the Mastiff's defense, I own an English Mastiff and was extremely concerned about his aggressiveness. Mastiffs are naturally aggressive towards anyone they perceive as a threat to their family and/or home. A breeder should be contacted regarding Moose. If I didn't already have 2 large dogs, I would adopt Moose, even knowing his history. Mastiff's are notoriously protective. They also are not meant to be kept outside. Their size requires a soft sleeping area, proper diet due to the joint issues, and they also are prone to skin conditions and ear infections. The animal definitely needs to be thoroughly examined, and socialized. Age also plays a part. You can teach an old dog new tricks - it just takes proper knowledge, handling, and love.

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Heated dispute outside Paris murder trial

I've not really followed this story closely. It's typical of what is heard in the news these days, unfortunately. Child is abused in some form or another, either at home or socially by peers, or both. Child reacts violently when they reach the breaking point. Terry does need to be evaluated because killing another human being is the most serious crime a person can commit in our society. Killing a parent, well, society finds that to be unthinkable. So, was his action justified due to abuse at home and / or by peers? Was there action taken before this happened, and no one did anything to prevent it? Having suffered thru the "juvenile" system in Edgar County myself, many years ago, it's typical for the juvenile's words to be ignored, not be taken seriously. Unfortunately, we as a society often do this. Yes, they need to respect adult authority, more of this needs to happen in society as a whole. As adults, we need to listen to the meaning in the words, not just here the words, and as adults evaluate and act accordingly. Terry needs professional evaluation and action taken that is justifiable. He has committed a crime, no matter the circumstances.

I have rescued animals in the past, but never had one as bad as these 2 dogs were. What is wrong with people!!!? A person that will neglect a child or pet is capable of any cruelty. She should be tied up and neglected and then she may have a real understanding of what happens to the body and psyche of an animal that is treated this way.

You know, I am a suspicious person by nature, but even if I weren't, just the fact that these guys were in uniform and did not act military would get my attention. People that are true military personnel have a different persona when they put on the uniform. People really should be more aware of our men and women in the armed forces and what that meanst to THEM. It affects their whole personality, demeanor, attitudes, everything about them, and it is noticeable. Good job Officer, for picking up on that and for catching these creeps!!

WTHITV.com | Terre Haute, Indiana : Wheelchair ramp stolen from girl with MS | wthitv.com

There is something seriously wrong with our society today. I was shopping the other day and overheard a comment as a man walked by " My father would have done things differently." Yes, our parents and our grandparents would have done things differently. Soooo differently. Most likely, this theft would not have occured. Why? Because the older generations had a better sense of community, had a better sense of right and wrong. Yes, the current economy is horrible, and yes, people are resorting to desperate measures. It took time and effort to remove an aluminum ramp from a persons home. Yesterday, I observed (YES! Observed) my neighbors removing a wooden ramp from their home. They don't need it, so they removed it. I know my neighbors, so I knew who was working on the home. I live in a good community. We look out for each other. I sincerly hope that these theives are caught, and prosecuted. I sincerely hope that karma pays these theives a visit and they get what they so richly deserve. God, what has happened to our community???

Well, duh! Some people just have no sense at all. Breaking into a home, be it a law enforcement officer's or anyone's home is STUPID! There is no such thing as respect for law, privacy, property, or another's life, in today's world. This is a true crisis situation we live in today. I own 2 very large dogs and have no doubt about their ability to protect and defend my home and family. Even a law enforcement office needs some type of security system. Isnt' that sad?!

hmmm... wonder what kind of deal these pedifiles will get. When I was a kid, families were tight. Everyone knew who your children should not be left with. I am not saying this parent was negligent. They believe their children were safe, and we all do. Unfortunately, these creeps pray not just on our children, but on our sense of safety. These children should have been safe, but these creeps knew how to make the parents believe that. It isn't the parents fault, it is the twisted minds of individuals that plan to satisfy a sick twisted need. They prey on the parents too. My prayers are with the parents, and the girls. My disgust, and anger go out to the @#$% creeps that are so sick.

Trying to determine if she is a suitable parent???? Seriously?????? Nevaeh needs to be put in a family that will love her, encourage her to be the very best person she can be, to succeed and grow and be healthy. There is no determination to be made. It was made when the woman chose her own selfish and addictive habit over the health, safety and well being of Nevaeh. I can not use the term "mother". It would be disrepectful to the people that actually believe a child is a gift to the world, and believe that children are our future.
