Simple solution to save money- instead of prosecuting cases against any ILLEGAL immigrants, just turn them over to ICE for deportation. That would save a chunk of change in our state.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Live-aboard yacht burns on Lake Union | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking N

The boat on fire was reportedly 56 feet in length. Cause of fire: cooking oil in a pan on the stove, spilled onto the heating flame below, spreading the fire to the interior furnishings inside a combustible vessel (fiberglass & wood). Reportedly, a significant wake from a passing vessel rocked the owner's boat while she was cooking, leading to the incident. Red Cross responds whenever the fire department calls them to report displaced individuals. If someone's home is destroyed by fire/flood/landslide/earthquake, the Red Cross will assist that person or family if they don't have another available domicile- i.e. family or friends who can take them in. Vouchers for hotels, and donated clothing are typical support items provided by the Red Cross.

Fuels, for firefighting purposes, are divided into classifications: Class A - Wood, paper, cloth, trash, plastics. Solid combustible materials that are not metals. (Class A fires generally leave an Ash.) Class B - Flammable liquids: gasoline, oil, grease, acetone. Any non-metal in a liquid state, on fire. This classification also includes flammable gases. (Class B fires generally involve materials that Boil or Bubble.) Class C - Electrical: energized electrical equipment. As long as it's "plugged in," it would be considered a class C fire. (Class C fires generally deal with electrical Current.) Class D - Metals: potassium, sodium, aluminum, magnesium. So yes, there was plenty of Class A fuel to burn: the fiberglass, plastics, wood. Even some Class D fuel burned as evidenced by observed white-hot sparking and dripping materials. The Class B fuel on the vessel (diesel, gasoline) did not ignite. The fuel tanks did not rupture and leak into the bilge; no evidence of a fuel sheen was seen around the vessel.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : 3-alarm fire burning Mill Creek apartment building | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sport

It is unfortunate for the affected tenants that there was a fire in the apartment building. I am glad that no one was injured. That being said, it took Snohomish County Fire District One over 5 minutes to have a charged (filled with water) attack hoseline in place AFTER their arrival at this fire- totally unacceptable considering the layout of the apartments involved and the close proximity of the fire engine. Check out photos 4,5 and 6 here: http://www.fireengineering.com/articles/print/vol...

mulcher, EVERY hydrant gets checked EVERY year by the fire companies covering each district in the city. The annual check (per department Operating Guidelines) involves: operating the foot valve that connects the hydrant piping to the water main; completely opening/closing the valve stem on top of the hydrant- this opens the valve at the bottom of the hydrant, pressurizing it with water; opening/resecuring the caps on the hydrant to ensure that they operate smoothly and to check that the hydrant drains properly (very important to prevent freeze damage). Per city protocol, we do not flow water from the open hydrant ports. 'Fire flow' calculations for hydrants are covered by SPU, and they relate to the size (diameter) of the fire main to which the hydrant is mounted - 4", 6", 8". Bigger is better for adequate water flow. Problems found during inspections are electronically forwarded to SPU for repair. Typical problems encountered with fire hydrants include: can't locate the foot valve; hydrant valve stem won't open/close the hydrant valve; hydrant won't drain; damaged thread on hydrant caps; etc. SPU repairs the hydrants, SFD inspects the hydrants.

MLA, if you are inside a vehicle when a flash fire occurs, you will be in the fire. The nature of the injuries will be dependent upon whether or not the fire just flashes (momentary ignition of fuel vapors inside the passenger compartment) or sustained fire occurs due to the ignition of combustibles such as upholstery, hair, or clothing. Though rare, interior (passenger compartment) vehicle fires do occur due to ignition of fuel vapors. If they did indeed just fuel the vehicle, AND there was something faulty with the integrity of the fuel system (such as the fill port/tube) that allowed gasoline vapors to enter the passenger compartment, that could be an explanation. The propane tank leak theory that someone alluded to is also a good possibility.

Hey "concrete" (concrete is dense, right?), I rode the bus home from work the other day and tipped over sideways when the Sound Transit driver hit the brakes for a red sedan that 'merged'/pulled in front of him suddenly. Now, I wasn't injured, but in a more abrupt stop scenario- like the one described in the news article, it is not unreasonable to imagine a person sliding from a side-facing seat and striking the interior or landing on the floor.

Actually "dori", the 'sprinkler system agenda' could more correctly be described as a national safety agenda item supported by the U.S. Congressional Fire Caucus, the National Fire Academy, the National Fire Protection Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Association of Fire Fighters, the Washington State Fire Marshal (and every state fire marshal in the United States), probably every Burn Foundation, etc. The only groups that I am aware of that actively oppose "the sprinkler agenda" are builder/developer groups. We wouldn't want to put public safety ahead of profit, now would we? Also, those sneaky fire fighters, pushing for fire sprinkler protection in group residential housing; they must want to lower the number of fires and injuries due to fire- wait why would they want to have fewer fires? They MUST be up to something.
