GazetteOnline.com : Death of a rivalry: Iowa-Wisconsin

I think Hugs4U's "weak sister" comment was referring to the way ISU has been treated by the conference formerly known as the Big XII. It certainly doesn't fit the Hawkeyes. Glad it's almost ISU week again!

How about a large bronze question mark with a picture on Jim Delaney on the base and a crossed out Wisconsin logo on the bottom?!

GazetteOnline.com : Big Ten may have been scooped of its own scoop -- ESPN joins others who say Iowa's lumped in a footb

I'm OK with the divisions, except I'm not crazy about our protected rivalry being Purdue. Tough to call that a "rivalry" when Wisconsin is being dropped from the every-year schedule.

GazetteOnline.com : DJK: His personal story is genuinely rags-to-riches

Too bad "The Blindside" has already been made - this sounds like a movie! My son got his autograph as the Spring Game, and he was clearly enjoying signing for the kids. What a great story, and the best is yet to come! Go Hawks! Go DJK!

GazetteOnline.com : Rivalries at risk in Big Ten's new division shuffle (with poll)

Actually, the divisions will only be used for football. Other sports will be completely unaffected.

GazetteOnline.com : My No. 8 -- 2005 Capital One

I can't believe this game is not higher than number 8! I've had season tickets since the late 1980s, and for me, that was the greatest Hawkeye game ever. (I was not at No. 1 Iowa 12 No. 2 Michigan 10). The greatest swing of emotion I've ever experienced at a sporting event - from "oh ___ we aren't going to have time for the field goal" to pure elation in the blink of an eye. I was in the end zone behind the Iowa offense and saw Holloway come open, but was afraid he would be tackled just short of the goalline. The stunned looks on the LSU fans was priceless.

GazetteOnline.com : Readjusting 2011 Big Ten football schedule won't create many problems

I still prefer the Big 12 format, because I don't want any conference opponent to be too sparse on the schedule. I'd hate to have any conference opponent coming to Kinnick only two times a decade.

GazetteOnline.com : Some Eastern Iowa churches find room to grow on outskirts of city

It is if you can't fit everyone in that wants to attend! What's the alternative? Sorry folks, we're full, you're not allowed in here. Imagine how that would be viewed! "Critics decry church for turning people away. Are they racist, elitist, cultish, or all of the above?" Anyone else sense that the churches can do no rigjht in some peoples eyes?

The former Cedar Hills (now Stonebridge) site was sold to another congregation as it's first permanent facility.

Presumptuous and unfounded. It's easy to be an expert on things you know nothing about, isn't it. Stonebridge moved less than 1/2 mile, from one West Side location to another; from a 1/2 block site to a much larger area with room for ministry and growth. Have you tried finding a 20 plus acre site in the inner city that a church could afford?

GazetteOnline.com : Dividing up the 12 in the Big Ten

The problem with rolling divisions (i.e. restructuring them periodically to promite parity) or divisions with a matched cross-divisional rival (a la SEC) is that some schools may not match up for extended periods. For the sake of continued conference identity and coheseivness, I think that's important. I want each school to regularly play each other home and away. I'd play eight conference games, five in division and three cross division. I'd play cross divisional teams 1-3 one year, teams 4-6 the next. The re-do 1-3, with the opposite home-away. Then re-do 4-6, with opposite home and away. I'd even support going all the way up to 11 conference games to play a true round robin! That way, no team is off the schedule for more than a year, and home-away matchups are preserved within a 4 year cycle.

GazetteOnline.com : Pollard on the Big Ten Network

Just when I'm feeling sympathetic to ISU, Pollard opens his mouth and says something truly stupid. Quit whining! It's as if he's arguing to his next employer why it really weasn't his fault. Shut up and do someting productive for your school! Time to make some lemonade out of the lemons ISU has been handed.

GazetteOnline.com : There's no cause for Hawkeyes to be scornful of Cyclones other than pure rivalry reasons

As a proud Iowan and avid Hawk fan with two graduate degrees from the University of Iowa, I have actually become protective and defensive about ISU as this process has evolved. It may be good for Hawkeye athletics to see ISU diminished, but it's bad for the State of Iowa. Hawkeyes and Cyclones are like brothers, which is why the rivalry can get so intense. Brothers may fight, but they stick together when the other is being picked on.
