Isn't this the same guy who owns Joenseys? Is Joesnseys even still open? I heard the health department had a hey day a few years ago at this place.

Obviously you do not know the whole story. This guy and his group "A.L.F." did not simply go into a lab and let a bunch of test rodents escape. They caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage and destroyed YEARS of research. They also posted the names and home addresses of all the scientists on their websites as "Targets of opportunity". They continuously threatened and harassed the researchers.

These idiots are part of what the FBI have deemed an ever increasing threat to America. Domestic Terrorists/eco terrorists are just as nutty as uncle jihad and his suicide vest.

yeah yeah yeah - I guess what i should have said is that the funds being used to purchase this gear is not coming out of the City/Police Budget. If the Feds are going to spend our money, isn't it nice that some of it is spent here?

The Police Department wants new equiptment, the same that just about all police departments have - and Pfaltzgrafanugen is just trying to stir up publicity and start rumors that the police want this equiptment just because of the under 21 crowd. Give me a break! The world does not revolve around the bars, regardless of what you think. Perhaps the public will see the bar owners and their cronies for what they really are; Exploiters.

It surprised me to hear that the IC Police don't have this gear already. In a college town? Have you seen the riots in Ames? This equiptment is being purchased from grant money provided by the Department of Homeland Security. Not costing the public. Funny, how this article left that part out. Yes, the Gazette headline is misleading. Makes me think that there is a staff writer either too busy plaing on their phone or is using their own views to dictate the "story". Editor?

I stand by my post.

If a post is offensive, report/delete it. If a members score reaches double digit negative numbers, suspend him/her. Eliminating a venue in which people post their true feelings/opinions is not a victory. It’s self gratification to a group who feels their opinions are the only ones that should be heard. Jennifer is upset that people are being offensive and rude to criminals and social outcasts? Are you serious? The problem with our society today is that we are so protective and accommodating to these groups.

Newspapers are losing circulation, and people are visiting other websites for their news. If the Gazette wants to hasten it’s own demise, they should indeed follow Jennifer’s suggestion. Like I said, it worked wonders for the Press-Citizen!

Funny how "Communists", "Atheists" and "Academics" feel so righteous that they want to demean others. They have no room in their "close-minded" world to accept that others have views different from their own.

Is the World not big enough to accept that there are 2 sides to every coin? Sometimes both sides are wrong, and sometimes both sides are right.

I am not sure if it's the offensive comments that Jennifer has a problem with, or the opinions of others who do not share her view? Sure go ahead and require that people use their real names. Then, only people whose opinions mirror your own will post, as those who do not share the same liberal thinking views as the majority in this area will not post. Posting non-politically correct views in a society that seems to want to hug criminals, make excuses for drug abusers, and who believe that tax dollars are better spent on art rather than pot holes seems to fall on death ears. Many people will not post with their real names as it may jeopardize their jobs.

I suggest you look at the results the Press-Citizen in Iowa City has had with their attempt to censor posts by requiring real names.

So, go ahead and silence the voices of those who openly share their views. It won’t change the fact that there are people that have different viewpoints, it will just make you feel like you have the only opinion and that everyone shares it. It’s just like how Hitler and the Nazi party conducted cleansing by fire when they burned books.

Yes, It is wrong as it will not help the problem that already exists. If anything it will fuel more anger toward Americans everywhere.

But, I must say that I am disapointed at all the attention this nut is getting. Would a group of Muslims burning bibles or killing nuns because of a silly cartoon get the same media attention?

Religion has caused more grief in our World than it has solved. God belongs in each persons heart. Organized religions everywhere are corrupt and twist the word of God for their own purpose.
