To answer your key point, I think that the people (of whatever age) *who would consider voting for us* won't give a monkey's about this story. Those who care *strongly* (as opposed to a temporary annoyance) are simply not realistically ever going to vote for us, and so, as I stressed earlier, trying to appease them is a futile and nugatory waste of time and energy.
Yes, they *are* the "enemy", and if the government are too weak-minded to understand and accept this there is little prospect of electoral success or, more importantly, of doing anything worthwhile when we *are* in power.
The reason Conservative governments so rarely roll back legislation passed by previous Labour government is is that they are stupid and cowardly and are afraid of the flak they will get from left-wing scum such as the Guardian and the BBC. My point is that we should scorn and ignore these traitors to Britain and impose our gut policies, regardless of the opposition - however vocal - of those who will never vote for us however much we seek to pacify and please them.

Your offensive attempt to portray me as such just shows your aggression, your stupidity, and your lack of arguments. You are trying to shut down the debate by resorting to personal insults and emotional intimidation.
It won't work with me.

Only that part of the electorate that would NEVER vote Conservative anyway - our ENEMIES.
The trouble with most Tories is that they have no political sense and do not understand the tribal and confrontational nature of politics, where you have to support those who support you, AGAINST those who do not.
You should NEVER modify your policies to try to pacify those who do not support you.
Trying to appeal to everyone is futile and counter-productive, as you just end up p*ss*ng off your natural supporters, who will either go elsewhere or simply not vote - as has been happening recently.

I completely agree with this. But then the article calls for the usual nonsensical public enquiry, and assumes that it is the government's fault that a tiny number of people have had problems over their immigration status.
No. Let's make it clear that if people have lived in Britain for decades and have not regularised their immigration status in all that time then it is THEIR fault and they can, quite legitimately, be deported.
I'm not completely opposed to some discretion in these cases however, and allowing some to remain, but ONLY if they have an unblemished record - ie. no criminal convictions and no gaps in their NI contributions. We are being told that all these people are wonderful citizens who helped Britain; let them prove it. If true, then we can let them stay, but if not, then they should be deported.
