No, voting means something. Those in power would like you to believe that it doesn't so their loyal constituents can continue putting them in power. Time to stop this crazy cycle and put some independents in there with absolutely no political history just to teach 'em all a lesson!

"'The new commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service has made it clear, and rightfully so, that people who owe the IRS money should pay the money they owe,' George said." Ummm...no one owes the IRS any money. As a taxpayer I, like everyone else who may owe money on a quarterly basis, makes the check out to the U.S. Treasury. Our refunds come from, you guessed it, the U.S. Treasury. The IRS is simply the federal revenue agency. This guys needs to be careful what he says.

Okay, I found it. It's in Article II, Section 1(c), but approval requires a 2/3 majority vote in both houses of the Legislature. I'm fairly certain that 51-47 does equal 66%...not even close. In fact, for this bill to be constitutionally approved would require 66 votes (65.68 to be exact). So, the statement by KATU news staff that this bill was approved is erroneous at best.

"Lawmakers can amend initiatives with a simple majority vote after they've been on the books for two years..." Can someone please tell me where this is in the Washington Constitution? I can't seem to find it. Wonder if the Legislature passed a law that allows them this absolute unconstitutional abuse of power?

KATU - Portland, OR : PDX gets aggressive to reduce bird strikes | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon | Local & Regional

If I were to guess - and this is just a guess, nothing to back it up with but a hunch - it's because there is far more demand for 12- and 20-gauge than there is for .410 ammo. It's simple Economics 101...supply and demand. Thus, the demand/supply ratio is lower for 12- and 20-gauge shells therefore they cost less. FWIW, you *can* buy cheaper .410 ammo than the prices I quoted, but it will either be bought online in large quantity and you have to add shipping, purchased at a gun show (if you can find it), or it will be 2 1/2" shells and not the better (IMO) 3" variety.

Actually, .410 ammo is about 3X that of 12-gauge...believe me, just went trap shooting this past weekend where both were present and had to buy ammo for them both. $14/box for .410 vs. $4.67/box for 12-gauge. Yikes!!

Noise making devices are not "aggressive". Aggressive is shooting the birds with a 12-gauge shotgun which has been stated previously. And, before you anti-gun Nazis go spouting off on things you know nothing of, the effective range of a shotgun pellet is *maybe* 100 yards. Effective range = resulting in death or life threatening injury. So using them on a property the size of the PDX airport is perfectly safe when used by competent and trained personnel. That immediately and automatically disqualifies any of the anti-gun Nazis as they are not competent for much of anything.

The "phantom WMDs", as you put it, have been in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon for years. There many credible witnesses that have been interviewed who state this fact, so it's been corroborated. We don't go get them because Lebanon doesn't have any oil. I'll concede that one. It's been the policy of the US for decades to ensure oil security "...through any means available." I also find it interesting to note that several years ago I ran across a newspaper article buried several pages in that detailed the 1700+ tons of enriched nuclear material the US military very quietly carted out of Iraq to the Yucca Mountain waste site in Nevada. I know. I know. Why didn't we know about it when they were transporting it? Fair question. Security, plain and simple. If you're going to move a large amount of enriched nuclear material from one country to another - especially if it's halfway around the world and you've got go by Iran and through the Straits of Malacca - you're not going to announce what you're doing. Even to your own citizens.

KATU - Portland, OR : Man whips out cell, captures gunfire outside bar | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

Insufficient information to draw any conclusions. I would imagine, based on the story written and Mr. Ragaway's comments here (thanks bro!), that none of us are going to be able to accurately determine whether Mr. Butler acted recklessly or not. Reason being that we don't have all the witness statements to go on, only a summary of what witnesses said occurred (limited in this story) and a few seconds of cell phone video that Mr. Ragaway has already stated occurred mid-way through the incident. So there are a number of questions that need answers before one can accurately assess what happened and who should be charged with what. What I do know is that gun laws in this country are by-and-large far too restrictive and punitive for gun owners. The laws seem to be more about keeping firearms out of the hands of private citizens, or making them useless once possessed, than upholding the Constitution (which rules over all federal, state, and local laws), including our rights to express opinions like this one and the others here. Something of note in all of this. The Constitution give everyone the right to express an opinion, but it doesn't require that anyone respect those opinions, only the right to express them. Food for thought...

I wonder if this is something like what the country experienced during the heyday of bank robbing in the 30s during the Great Depression? Just struck me as mildly similar, but lacking the glamor we are told went along with being a bank robber during that time. Could be the beginning of another time like the 30s...

Ummm, for the record, Lightspeed is not a "fly by night" alternate provider. They are the Oregon portion of what used to be NOAnet. They are the de facto method for providing optical backhaul from rural Oregon to internet interconnection points in Portland to provide access to millions of Oregonians who would otherwise be without. Unless, of course, you actually *believe* the incumbent providers would willingly build longhaul networks to rural Oregon, at tremendous cost to themselves, knowing that they would never recoup the investment. Oh, and FWIW, Lightspeed uses the same equipment and software that the incumbents do.

Great question nyyluv. On another note, why not just have some fun with a pellet gun and shoot the rats as they come onto your property? Granted, it's not fair that the Butler's are being required to deal with their neighbor's problem, but they could at least have a little fun with it.

The amount of sodium in our diet these days is just ridiculous. The only way to consistently inhibit the high sodium content in your diet is to make your food fresh, at home. After going through an incredibly painful kidney stone, trust me, it's not worth it!!! And your medical insurance company will thank you - $17,000+ for a lithotripsy procedure!!!
