Daily Camera.com: : VP Debate: Biden, Ryan at each other on everything - Boulder Daily Camera

I wasn’t impressed by tonight’s debate from either of them. Biden smirked and laughed too much. Ryan seemed unable to keep Biden from interrupting him, and the moderator was weak. I’m still hoping that this home-town model proves accurate. http://www.colorado.edu/news/releases/2012/10/04/...

I agree completely, well-stated ^^^^^^. This is indicative of their CHARACTER, and imho, it ain’t looking too good. I’d be mortified if my kid did something like this, totally sick. If one believes there’s “good” in this world, it should follow one believes there is “evil”. Deliberate, pointless cruelty such as this......evil.

That's exactly correct, Velosnow and Glock27. Until a friend gave me this linked book, I had no idea how things are in North Korea. This book is outstanding, and gives insight and is incredibly fascinating. Those people are starving, and have been starving for years. They are under control that is probably impossible to fully comprehend. Aid is received and blackmarketed, like other places, but what really amazed me (admittedly not any kind of historian here) is how effectively brainwashed the culture is. Those people know that they are always being watched, they MUST appear "sad" about this death. They are punished for not turning each other in for just anything that doesn't comport with the government's total control. Another for instance, in this story, there is a late 20-something elementary school teacher who does not understand where babies come from, kid you not. She watches as her little students come to school each day, LITERALLY starving, collecting twigs and grass to eat. Anybody who loves to read, please read this book. http://www.amazon.com/Nothing-Envy-Ordinary-Lives...

Daily Camera.com: : Erie trustees push for coyote hazing policy that includes pellet, BB guns - Boulder Daily Camera

I really appreciate that post, artofboulder. We lived in a rental near Anthem last summer, right by the municipal airport. One morning in July, I took our little dog outside to do his business. The backyard wasn't fenced, but he was never allowed out off a leash there, with exception to potty. Out of tall grass leapt a coyote, my dog 10 feet away from me. The coyote tore off with him in his jaws, and I ran after, futilely . It was awful, awful. Worst was waking up the family to tell them little dog was gone. I'll never forget how terrible it was to see our dog die that way. Later in the summer a toddler was attacked while with his father on the trails near Anthem. I recall reading the account, and the father asking not to be identified, fearing (somehow) retribution might come his way as he was feeling a bit anti-coyote at that moment, understandably. I wondered then just how upside down things are getting when a guy has his child attacked and yet fears seeming anti-coyote, like he didn't have a right to feel that way at such a time? Anyway, I think there is a way to handle this without annihilating coyotes, I appreciate they just want a meal and habitat. But where IS the line, that I don't know. I do know I'd have loved to have a pellet gun with me that morning a coyote killed our little dog.

Daily Camera.com: : Head-on collision in Erie closes Highway 7 at County Line Road - Boulder Daily Camera

I agree with both of you, in parts. I use that turning lane at least 2x a week to visit relatives in the small subdivision west of the airport. The same spot where this terrible wreck happened today. I can tell you with certainty that the drivers are going by me (as I sit waiting for a break in traffic so I can turn) at 60 MPH on average. I believe the posted speed is presently 55 right there at that spot. There's room enough, as long as EVERYONE is paying full attention and watching the speed limit. Unfortunately, it seems everyone is on a cellphone, distracted in some way or other. (I'm not saying that's what happened today.) I would recommend Cdot take a look at the area just east of today's accident as well..the cars crest that hill (when traveling west) and there is a "blind intersection" just below it, the one where this accident took place. This report is listing conditions as "serious". They wouldn't let us into this area today, had it cordoned off, telling us we could not get into the neighborhood as this was a fatality accident and would require extra time for proper investigation. God bless those involved and their families.

Thank you for those kind words, condoguy! One thing for certain, folks in CO have a better approach physically, if you will....just less lazy, lol. I love that and so many things about the people here. There isn't much smog in Boulder, but plenty of smug! ;0) I believe you're right about parenting, the self-absorbeds and the extremes....kinda too scary to imagine that's getting to be prevalent everywhere in the U.S.. (It's even in Texas, but not in the small towns.)

Again, THANKS, it's consolation others see it too!

Lisa

Daily Camera.com: : Trying times for Erie\'s restaurateurs - Boulder Daily Camera

We moved to the Erie area last summer. We do our best to patronize the local stores first, as allows. Every time we're in Lui's or Caddyshack, I keep wondering where everybody is.....I'm not saying they're empty, but with all those homes surrounding (Erie Commons, Vista Ridge, Country Meadows, et al) they could be full. Maybe the residents of those neighborhoods aren't eating out? (doubt that) Do they prefer to go to chain-type, blah, places? I don't know, but I hope things pick up for these eateries/businesses. I would hate to see Erie with nothing, and we must support them (if they're good) so we'll have them.

Haven't gotten over to the Parkway Grill, but that's right next to the ice cream place, Snow Cap, same owner for both venues, I believe. I take the kids over there for ice cream and I am hugely impressed with the young people they hire/have working there. They are unfailingly friendly, make you want to keep coming back in there. Snow cap has short order menu, hamburgers o.k. not great, sweet potato fries that are very good.

I agree about Lui's (LOVE IT) and I haven't yet been to the other you mentioned. Caddyshack is also very, very good, in a home-cooked kind of way, just like mom would make it (assuming mom's a great cook ;0). I also appreciate that Caddyshack put a great deal into making the restaurant attractive, as well as good food. Caddyshack does love them some spice, be warned. Lui's has the booze over there, and frankly, I bet that helps A LOT. Anytime we go there for a dinner (the place is split w/dining on one side, bar on other) the bar is kickin' while the restaurant is more quiet. I love Lui's salmon, it's the good stuff.

I suggested a couple days ago that it was time to be quiet. I don't feel that way now. I pray the father makes it through this and he must be in hell--my heart breaks for him, regardless. I hope some good comes out of this, and maybe we will read some things here that will inspire us to change the way we live in some small or large way. Reading all this, I keep wondering WHERE WAS THE REST OF THE FAMILY? Maybe they all live far away, IDK. How about the nice people who were carpooling, couldn't they have taken Nicole for that week? Maybe all that's being written here will compel us to consider our own situations, how any of us might help/intervene.

@sk8sign, I had to thumbs up, as I agree with the spirit of your post...however, not sure I understand your take on climbers and pickup truck drivers....the former, well, they are just doing something they love to do and anytime a person has a focused passion e.g rock climbing, they kinda become part of a self-selected group. (which can be a good and edifying thing) The latter, the pickup drivers, well maybe they NEED to drive a truck for their work, or maybe they just happen to have a truck. (I admit there ARE some MONSTER-sized trucks out there, and yeah-imo they seem to be 'trying', at what, I only imagine, lol.) Blogger Jenn here is behaving like a complete a**, and it probably has NOTHING to do with climbing. It's probably just who she is. Mis-SOUR-i went to Missouri and they were likely glad to see her go!

We are new to the area and I only shop/eat/attend PT in Boulder. We think it is a super cool little burg, and its beauty is breath-taking, anyone who says otherwise is inured, as it's like a postcard over there. JMHO, but the locals who CAME from Boulder, the Natives, seem to me very kind, very patient in general. However.....I may be stomped for saying, I've NEVER experienced so many prats as one usually finds in the Boulder Whole Foods. I think the employees there are phenomenally good, but the customers!!! Good grief, they're awful! Pushy, hurried, smug factor off the charts. But again, the natives of Boulder--top shelf people in general.
