Well, I managed to get the fires put out before they spread too far. I only lost 3 floors, and luckily the stairs didn't burn down so it'll be fairly easy to rebuild. And no, I haven't learned my lesson. I am PUTTING a freaking fireplace in that room. I am adding a chimney so there won't be any wooden floor above it this time.

My original plan was to build the tower out of brick and use stone for the floors, but bricks are prohibitively time consuming to craft in the necessary quantities...

Don't I know it. I used a mapping program to find a gold deposit, and a GPS program to find the coordinates in game. Unfortunately, the GPS used reversed coordinates. Not only was I completely in the wrong place, but I dug straight down through probably the ONLY gap in the bedrock for miles. Right into the void.
