The really amazing thing about this story is that anyone is paying attention to it at all. This is just another desperate ploy from the far-right carnival barkers like Breitbart who cant handle the reality that they are losing all the important political battles right now. Losers. Actually this article is riddled with falsehoods. Public unions don't require membership and the money they get is from people who choose to give them their own money. Not one penny of taxpayers money is taken from taxpayers by unions, much less automatically given to Democrats. Quite a little conspiracy theory you people have going there. Poor little victims! What a complete crock. Admit, private citizens spending money on campaigns is protected free speech. What's good for the goose baby. Plus, there is no intimidation going on here except from extreme rightwingers who, based on a fraudulent narrative of victimhood, accuse working Americans of being communists. Supplies are at an 8-year high. The problem is that prices have become unmoored from the fundamentals. The solution is simple and elegant: the CFTC should impose position limits to prevent speculation from needlessly driving up the price.
After the depression laws were passed to prevent speculation on commodities markets. This kept prices wedded to real supply and demand. But in the early 90s, a number of wall st firms got exemptions and were allowed to speculate. By 2010 there were 350 billion dollars in the commodities markets. This is insane.
Drill baby drill?? No. Re-regulate. It worked before and it can work again. Right wingers have been brainwashed by corporate interests to think that regulation = big government = tyranny. What a joke. Deregulation is strangling the economy and rightwingers are saying "more! more!"
The reason Obama wont force the CFTC to do what is needed is that Goldman Sachs is his number one contributor. Obama wants high energy prices? Oh yeah, that'll REALLY help him get elected. That is mind-numbingly stupid.

As a progressive I say good riddance, NPR. The most hilarious aspect of this story is that anybody seriously considered NPR "liberal." NPR was centrist mush that tried to walk that middle ground that is rapidly disappearing in American politics. ... Without NPR, progressives will have a much better time of getting their message out to independent voters about positive progressive change and sensible policies for the middle class and working Americans like making the very richest and big corporations pay their fair share. As for marginalizing the tea party as racist - we dont have to do that, you guys do it all on your own. You know what? If you werent racist, you wouldnt spend so much energy desperately insisting you are not racist. You would just carry on. Or, you would do the responsible thing and discipline your own ranks (which I admit you have been doing more of lately.) You guys may be mostly old farts but you are a young movement.
