You are racist if you do not support social justice and human rights in Nablus which is a Palestinian city on internationally recognized Palestinian land. "we" Plenty of people in Boulder support this sister city proposal. Will be telling if the radical right wing supporters of Israel no matter what they do beat this issue down with enough threats and pressure. Israel all ready gets plenty of welfare from the U.S.

What happens to Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli government and Israeli military on their own internationally recognized land. Nablus is internationally recognized Palestinian land This is what the U.S. government supports. Boulder could be different by acknowledging Nablus and the Palestinian state This is what Palestinian children experience all of the time coming out of the apartheid state of Israel. This is what Boulder supports too by not speaking out and taking a stand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX6fu2_WfRI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bdbA2Ka3Bo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E23jXF_Naf4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEmQVxfgIzw

This is one of the best cities for Boulder to become a sister city with. Acknowledges the need for social justice and human rights in that conflict, recognizes international law, boundaries and the two state solution. Healthy for Palestinians and Israeli's.

What a beautiful and well thought out response to the efforts of the Nablus Sister City Proposal. As you have pointed out. "Sister City organizations have to have a statement of "commitment to basic human rights." This would demonstrate Boulder's commitment to basic human rights, international agreements and international law. Demonstrating a commitment to Palestine and Israel based on the 67 border. Reasonable and truly just proposal.

If the people of Boulder were really committed to social justice and human rights for all (including Palestinians) this would not even be controversial. But some faction of Boulder is not committed to human rights and social justice based on international law. We are talking about a Palestinian Sister City on internationally recognized Palestinian land. If that does not sit well with you or other so called liberal Boulder people it exposes the deep racism and willingness to ignore international law, UN resolutions etc having to do with this critical issue

Yes you are right about the issue being shut down across the U.S. for decades. But one of the myths promoted about Boulder is that it is so "liberal" but on this issue it has been as shut down or more by the so called "liberal" Jewish community here in Boulder for decades. Agree with everything you had to say. But the progressive myth about Boulder is just that a myth....

"The views of those who support the Palestinians and Iranians in wanting to see Israel destroyed, are well disseminated." This is an inflammatory and totally false claim. Who has said anything about Israel being destroyed. There are millions of us who see Israel's continuous illegal actions as not only as a threat to peace in the middle east but as a threat to Israel based on the 67 border itself. Read my words not your imagination and inflammatory claims.

"Mr. Benintendi is passionate about helping Palestinians, which I applaud, but he also seems very antagonistic toward Israel, which means that he may not be the right person to lead this movement. I see two options here. The first is for Mr. Benintendi to step down, as sad as this may be for him personally, and let someone less partisan lead the group. Alternately, the group could propose a triplet sister program. Boulder, Nablus, and an Israeli city such as Haifa, long known for good relations between Jews and Palestinians, might work. " So what if this man is antagonistic towards Israel they refuse to sign the Non Proliferation treaty and demand that their neighbors abide by it, continue to steal Palestinian land, humiliate Palestinian people, bulldoze Palestinian homes, olive trees, are in violation of more UN resolutions than any other nation, http://www.ifamericansknew.org/stats/un.html and as many leaders in the middle east who have written letters to the head of the IAEA have said Israel's undeclared and un inspected weapons are a threat to peace in the middle east. http://www.iaea.org/About/Policy/GC/GC54/GC54Docu... On top of that many U.S. experts have addressed how Israel's illegal actions in the this conflict have and continue to undermine U.S. National Security. These are facts. What is wrong with feeling "antagonistic" towards Israel's illegal actions. Also it is absurd to take on an Israeli sister city Israel all ready receives a disproportionate amount of U.S. taxpayers money via foreign aid. They certainly do not need more. In fact U..S. aid to Israel should be cut as Former President Bush 41 tried to do until they stop expanding and building illegal settlements in the West Bank and illegal housing in E Jerusalem. An Israeli sister city....U.S. taxpayers all ready give to much money to Israel http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RL33222.pdf

And this persistent false equivalency argument "both sides are wrong" is a total ball of bullshit. Israel has persistently been stealing internationally recognized Palestinian land. Israel is the aggressor and why continue to blame the Palestinians. Enough. Supporting Nablus based on humanitarian standards is the right thing to do. Enough of the so called liberals in this community and others across the country being able to take a hard turn radical right on the need to support the human rights and legal rights of the Palestinian people. UN resolutions that Israel is in violation o fhttp://www.ifamericansknew.org/stats/un.html

Right wing Jewish individuals have kept the Israeli Palestinian issue from being discussed in any sort of factual way shut down for decades in Boulder. Enough. This is a human rights issue period. Supporting Palestinians in Nablus or on any other piece of land that is internationally recognized Palestinian land is the right thing to do. How this conflict and Israel's continued expansion of illegal settlements is not only legally and morally wrong Israel's illegal and immoral activities undermine U.S. National Security. This fact has been addressed in the 9/11 committee report, by General Zinni, Scowcroft, Dr. Zbigniew Brezinski and many other experts. If Boulder can not take a stand on this critical human rights issue then let's get real Boulder is not and never has been the alleged progressive and humanitarian place that it is spun to be.

Daily Camera.com: : Sheriff\'s deputies on hand for Boulder County meeting on new fracking rules - Boulder Daily Camera

These new hydraulic fracking methods are so safe that the industry made sure they were exempt from the Federal Clean Air Act, will not release the names of chemicals used because of "trade secrets" and once these wells are capped the taxpayers are responsible for any future clean up. Hmmm Just kind of makes one wonder..just a little. A theft going on and the Boulder commissioners who vote for this can not legally be held accountable. No responsibility what so ever. Theft going on

The Boulder County Anti fracking community should press charges against the Boulder County Commissioners for preemptively considering to allow fracking in Boulder County. Wrong folks here threatening to prosecute the public for trying to protect their air, water and soil.
To the Boulder County Commissioners you are going after the wrong people. The three of you seem likely to roll over. One could hear it in your voices when you spoke after the public spoke and the staff. What is just shocking is that you would allow fracking companies that will not be releasing the names of the chemicals that they want to pump down under high pressure without you folks know what chemicals they will be using because of TRADE SECRETS....TRADE SECRETS. And water sampling will be done by private contractors? Are you kidding me? The three of you should have been saying GAME OVER. One question I wanted to ask your county attorney (he sure seemed bought out) is can the public sue the commissioners individually if water, soil, air are negatively effected from potential fracking. Can commissioners be prosecuted in a court of law by the public?

The rep from the oil and gas company (trans Can?) is that right was furious that the commissioners wanted to upgrade the oversight and regulations. She was visibly pissed and calling it duplication and a waste of time. Why oh why would anyone trust these industry people? Can the Boulder County Commissioners be individually sued if they roll over and say yes and then there is measurable negative effects on water, air, soil in the county. Can individual county commissioners be held accountable for their yes vote?

Have not lived in Boulder the last 34 years but have visited every summer. Now living here again. I attended the meeting and was in shock. This happening in Boulder County? One of the premiere environmentally aware communities in the states and the commissioners are rolling over. All you need to hear is that the oil and gas industry will not release the names of chemicals in the fracking water because of "trade secrets" TRADE SECRETS. That they will not allow people to know what is being pushed down these wells under huge amounts of pressure and the community can not find out what those chemicals are. STOP THERE. That private independent companies will be sampling these wells and will be the individuals determining whether these TRADE SECRET chemicals are entering the water systems of Boulder County. Why would anyone trust these people when they are not even willing to divulge what chemicals they will be using in potential fracking in the county. The commissioners should have said then and there. GAME OVER
