Let's say you were dating someone and you stopped seeing each other. You ended it on good terms (you're not ready for a relationship) three months ago. Thursday night is a comedy show that he bought tickets to while you were still seeing one another. It was never a plan for the two of you to go together because the tickets were bought months in advance and this relationship was very new at the time (and over now). Let's say you two remained friends after the end to the intimate relationship. No flirting, just friendly texts and random meetings in public. Yesterday you bartended brunch and he shows up with a mutual friend. He leaves a more than 50% tip on his bill and today he texts you and makes friendly conversation. Several hours after these texts you get another text from him asking you if you'd like to go see this comedian with him. He says it's cool if you can't or don't want to and it doesn't have to be anything more than a fun time. What are the chances of the last part of that last sentence being true? I ask because this hypothetical "you" isn't interested in him romantically, but still enjoys his friendship. On top of not being ready for a relationship, "you" may not even be romantically interested in anyone of his gender and, also, there were a few red flags concerning controlling behavior that popped up while you were still dating.

How many dirty coffee mugs there are in my sink is a pretty accurate indicator of how long it has been since I've washed dishes. And whether or not I have any clean mugs directly correlates to the probability of me washing dishes on any given day.

But it was her choice to be demeaned! Why is it that people don't understand that feminism is an actual ideology that doesn't change every time a woman who claims to be a feminist makes a choice or statement? Not all women are feminists. Even some of the women who think they're feminists aren't feminists. You don't get to say you enjoy being demeaned by strangers and then call it feminism because it's your choice to be demeaned. If you find catcalling empowering then maybe you should look within yourself and examine why you need others to praise your physical body to feel empowered.

Thank you, Jenna! My main issue is her inability to understand what SELF-empowerment is. It's the difference between "I feel good about myself because this other person told me I'm sexy" and "I feel good about myself because I know I am a sexy, beautiful and unique woman." I posted my rant on facebook and was called out by a guy saying that I'm a hypocrite for telling her what she should and shouldn't feel empowered by. I don't actually care what makes her feel sexy as it's different for everyone. Go ahead and feel sexy because someone on the street said you are, but let's not pretend that it's in any way related to self-empowerment.
