I really like your comments on this episode. It is one of my favorites as well and my favorite of the standalone episodes. I really appreciate how religion is handled overall in B5 and this episode is the highlight of that for me. I am also not Catholic so some aspects of Brother Edward's struggle don't hit as hard for me. His concern about not being able to confess the crimes from his previous life for example. I'm with Brother Theo, God knows, but then showing up each week with an itemized list to confess is not a part of my denomination and an idea that has always made me feel awkward though I know it can be very important for some people.
But the line you point out rings strong and clear for me too. I'm Lutheran and one of our central tenets is that God's love and forgiveness are a gift we are given, not something we earn. And there is always enough love and forgiveness for everyone.
I was raised with church always being an important part of life. Reading sci-fi and fantasy I was drawn to books that dealt with religion or spirituality and was definitely influenced by some of them, folding in ideas encountered in these books (and B5) into my personal beliefs.
Hahaha yes.
But why is the spoo gone?!
😀 yep! A couple years back a friend of mine who knew me at the height of my B5 obsession got to interview the actor at Gencon. I was so envious.
Yes, I love that bit. I imagine Na'Toth is thinking, 'okay, why are you sitting dramatically in the dark this time?'
Yeah, Keffer never did anything for me. I had a huge crush on a character who hasn't shown up yet. As for current cast, G'Kar is where it's at. Little teenaged me watching the show as it aired had her own revelations as to why she loved the scenes where G'Kar wears his robe that shows half his chest.
As a woman, seeing an amazing, kickass woman who was tough and in charge but also relaxed and let her hair down, that was wonderful and amazing and I loved Ivanova immediately.
I have a mishmash of different ornaments too. Somethings from childhood, a few ornaments that were gifts, a bunch of angels because once I got my own place and started actively collecting stuff for the tree I could not stop buying angel ornaments and some fandom stuff too. Wolverine was on the tree for several years, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, a Red Riding Hood figure that makes me think of werewolf red riding hood stories (though I doubt it was intended too). For a while every year I would buy one or two new things for the tree and the collection built up. The best was the year I went to a Scandinavian festival and they were selling the straw ornaments. I love those so much. We always had some on the tree when I was a kid (I think inherited from my paternal grandmother though my parents could have bought them) and I was so happy to get my own.
That is really striking. That you for posting.

My Mom's job basically boiled down to 'science teacher that classes went on special field trips to see'. Among other things, her place of work had frogs. Frogs that needed to be fed. With meal worms. As a child, it was a quite common sight to open up the refrigerator at home and see a jar of shredded newspaper and (live) meal worms sitting next to all the food for humans.
